Capcom Press Release:

Onimusha: Warlords was first unsheathed in 2001 on PlayStation 2 and introduced players to a world seething in darkness, magic, and demonic greed. Set in feudal Japan after the events of a revolutionary battle, it told the tale of the honorific samurai Samanosuke Akechi and ninja Kaede on a quest to save Princess Yuki from mysterious demons who have invaded Inabayama Castle. As the two travel throughout the castle, they unravel a malevolent plot by those who would serve the evil lord Nobunaga Oda. Upon its release, Onimusha: Warlords sold over 2 million copies worldwide and quickly became a beloved game due to its sword-based gameplay, stunning graphics that exuded a cinematic feel, and riveting story engulfed with strife.

Also has updated control scheme but the original tank controls are still there as well.

Played the heck out of it originally own it's sequels on PS2 and I think it deserves to see a new audience.

I imagine this is a toe in the water to see if there's enough demand to do the rest afterwards.

Capcom have mentioned they're looking to bring back more dormant franchises.

i'm guessing they'd have to renegotiate the image rights with Jean Reno.
2 shouldn't in theory be a problem as Jubei was based on a famous Japanese actor who had already sadly died so I don't know how the image rights would work there.

Is it going to be a remaster of the original version or the XBOX version which had an annoying nigh invincible doll stalking you for a large chunk of the game?

Basically they were resident evil but with swords and demons instead of guns and zombies

Pretty interested in these, as the series passed me by first time around. It's always sounded like the kind of thing I'd enjoy.

Lovely stuff. I'd happily play remasters of all four of the main series games. If it leads to an all-new game too, even better, so long as they stay true to the original style, and not dick about like they did with Resident Evil.

Nintendo Life liked the game in their review, rinks!

...this classic swashbuckling adventure (with the occasional moment of horror) has just re-sharpened its blade, and we're happy to have it back.

Yeah, I’ve seen mixed scores. It’s basically been tidied up but not changed much. I’m ok with that.

Been enjoying this all over again. Weirdly I still have muscle memory of it, remembered all the number puzzles from memory.

Only slight issue I have it L3 toggles the map, and I have a habit of knocking it when i'm trying to defend.

I also don't remember the herbs and medicines being so limited. Struggling with health half the time, farming for health.

If it wasnt for Grcade, this would have passed by me.

The advertising of this is pretty nonexistent.

Anyway, nearing the end. The free controls is a godsend. Tank controls don’t suit a game of this type. I remember struggling badly on the PS2 version.

How is it moving between screens? That's usually my issue with free controls in a fixed camera game, had occasional struggles with DMC1 on that front

Anyone played it on the Switch? Was mighty tempted at the price it's at.
