This.

And old, proper episodes of The Simpsons are still funny, as are bits of Friends. It probably helps that I don't watch them every time they're on and don't watch 'TVS BIGGEST LULZ' or whatever whenever it's on too.

Has anyone seen Stewart Lee's bit on Only Fools and Horses? I'll try and find it on youtube.

I found that Stewart Lee bit really funny actually, especially the village fair bit.

I also like Only Fools & Horses.

RogueLeader wrote:Sure, the bar fall scene isn't that funny on its own. But it's not meant to be watched on its own. What about the rest of the carefully crafted John Sullivan script? Del Boy spends the whole episode trying to be a yuppie, schmoozing with a class of people above his station. He's in a fancy bar, trying to look cool and sophisticated, and...there it is.

Sorry to break it down, but that doesn't seem to be mentioned much.

EXACTLY. You can't take one moment of the comedy and take it out of context and expect it to have the same meaning. OF&H is not a sketch show. The humour of the situations build-up over the course of whole episodes. Only Fools & Horses was a great comedy that showed working class Londoners, as opposed to the more common middle-classes, just trying get by in life and that's why it was so endearing to many. When the episodes expanded they were almost like comedy dramas and they became even better as we got to know and care about the characters more. Some episodes humour built on the humour of previous episodes. Sullivan was a great writer who knew how to pace and time the stories. Truly amazing, truly brilliant, and that is why Del, Rodney and family captured the hearts of so many in this country.

I prefer to ignore the post-Millionaires episodes.

First time I saw him live at the Warwick Arts Centre, he did a bit focused solely on Mark Watson's pear cider adverts, the ones with the ridiculous tagline of "Just give it to me straight, like a pear cider that's made from a hundred per cent pear". It lasted around 35 minutes, and he did it while meandering through the audience, climbing all the way to the upper tier seats and back down again.

It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

@Floex It's my favourite OFAH moment which there are many.

The falling through the bar gets a lot of credit but it was the funniest moment in an average episode

The earlier stuff was the best with Granddad

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisp anyone?

EDIT: Just watched that Stewart Lee vid in full. Not so funny. But the whole Del Day and The Trigger Man was pretty clever. I liked that!

I'd say it's watchable, but not hilarious.

What are some of these pretentious comedies out of interest?
