First time I saw him live at the Warwick Arts Centre, he did a bit focused solely on Mark Watson's pear cider adverts, the ones with the ridiculous tagline of "Just give it to me straight, like a pear cider that's made from a hundred per cent pear". It lasted around 35 minutes, and he did it while meandering through the audience, climbing all the way to the upper tier seats and back down again.

It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

That was the "If you prefer a milder comedian please ask" tour right? I remember that bit. It was a tiny little venue off Leicester Square and we were sat hysterically laughing as this giant of comedy crawling over the few empty seats in the house, ranting on and on about Mark Watson and still, all I could think was..."Is he talking about that bloke Eighthours keeps going on about?"

As for OFaH...it's immensely watchable TV. Only occasionally laugh out loud funny, but when it was it was hilarious. To me, the best gag is still Del's reaction to Cassandra's miscarriage, just because it managed to make you laugh when you should be crying. I cannot even imagine how difficult that was to write.

My favourite bits of the show are the more emotional (sad?) moments.

Stewart Lee isn't in the slight bit funny, quite how anyone can find such that whiny do-gooder pretentious liberal pissflap remotely amusing is beyond me.

At least he hates religion so that's one good thing going for him.

Stewart Lee is very funny, as is Only Fools and Horses. Del falling over at the bar isn't the "funniest thing ever" though, which is the point of Lee's bit.

Stewart Lee is an acquired taste. He's only really for people who like their comedians to be intelligent and thought provoking. For the rest like the two halfwits* above -there's the likes of McIntyre.

I really struggle to see how anybody cannot see the comedy gold that oozes from OFH. The standard of writing is superb and the timing and delivery of the killer lines are top notch. I suppose looking back at it today it can seem a tad contrived but it still stands the test of time superbly.

Whilst I find all the usual suspect gags funny the scene that cracks me up every time is the kitchen scenario when the gravy gets mixed up with the coffee, tis such a simple and obvious gag buth the way it is written and the subsequent delivery are comedy genius...another cracker is the episode with the medium Elsie Partridge and the Jimmy Saville line...watched that yet again a day or two ago on youtube and still had me crying with laughter.

On a sort of related note I watched Some Mothers Do Have Em the other day and always remembered it as being pretty dire. The episode I watched was set in a hotel room and was basically showing Frank Spencer going from trying to fix a wobbly wardrobe to totally destroying the room. Looking at it now it really was an awesome bit of comedy and is so clever...amazing stuff.

The Sun, 'Buzz' TV Guide wrote:I realise that saying I don’t like Only Fools And Horses is a bit like saying I don’t like crumpets, cricket and red telephone boxes. Regarded by many as a British institution, the adventures of Del and Rodney are held up as an example of great UK comedy. The problem is it’s just not that funny. People who say they love it always rave about the scene where Del falls through the bar, or the one when the chandelier smashes to the ground. These scenes are so ingrained in people’s minds, they’ve been brainwashed into thinking they’re hilarious. They’ve been on every comedy clip show and are repeated on GOLD every five minutes. But if you sit through a whole episode, you’ll see those moments are few and far between. What you actually get are long, unfunny scenes where Del and Rodney tease an old man about his war memories, with a laughter track to tell you where the jokes are.

And then there’s the Christmas Specials. Each year, one would haunt my festive enjoyment like distant relatives or Brussels sprouts. Forced to watch them by my parents, they were always the same. I’d wait for the one good joke that would remind everyone why they should think it was the greatest comedy ever made, then when it didn’t arrive, go to bed having wasted an hour of my life. Only Fools And Horses? Bah humbug.

I find the people who "rave" about the Del falling over in the bar haven't seen any of the other episodes! Every episode of OFAH is brilliant. Every single one! The only time it falls a bit flat are some of the later Christmas specials (after 1996). The other specials are superb, especially The Jolly Boys Outing & To Hull and Back.

When you watch it now, it's dated a little but what do people expect when most of it was made & set in the 80's? It's still funny and provides many laugh-out-loud moments. Even when I am watching an episode for the 1000th time.

It didn't really need to take up a third of that particular show though.
