I dunno, the 3DS is quite a powerful little machine. Nintendo are about grunt as long as they can make it small, efficient and relatively cheap to manufacture.

Not really compared to the 6 year old PSP.

It is when you compare 24MB of RAM to 96MB of RAM. :P

(Or 32MB to 128MB, if you want)

E3 this year could be the best yet

New Nintendo home system
NGP
NGP software line up
3DS software line up
Bungie's new game
Kojima's new NGP/PS3 game
Polyphony's new game
Gears 3
Uncharted 3
Halo CEMake
And the biggest thing at E3...........The Last Guardian

Nintendo have to be close to announcing their new system. Sakurai teased it, Mark Rein teased it, EA teased and now Ono has teased it.

This continual bullying of the new boy has gone too far.

E3 should be exciting. Don't know why anyone would be excited about the Halo remake though.

Do Nintendo deliberately swerve us though? I mean they have always said a new console is a long way off. They have said they are always looking at new ideas for the next console, so the most I think we could expect this year at E3 is that they have decided on a particular direction and concept for the Wii's succesor, and confirm there will infact be a new home conseole.

I doubt they'll annouce a 2012 launch for it though, they'd be putting themselves under a lot of pressure if development isn't already well underway and it will pretty much kill the Wii off when it still has more to offer. Nintendo have actually admitted they intended to focus on the 3DS for the first half of 2011, E3 could well see the announcement of many new Wii must-haves for the later half of the year, you never know.

I like the SF4 on Wii idea, I think that would breathe new life into the system. Obviously it would be graphically inferior to the HD versions but the 3DS connectivity could be interesting. If they could find a way for Wii players to battle 3DS players online that would be impressive. Maybe they could also make 3D graphics option for it and bundle 3D glasses. I think that would sell very well in the run up to Christmas. Of course I'm dreaming a bit.

That's my dreams shot down then. Loving your avatar btw, love live The Dirk Knight!!

The thing is Ono is saying no SF4 on Wii and people believe him, but Reggie and co say no new Wii for the foreseable future and people still expect Wii 2 at E3. Personally I just want more Wii games announced, I mean the Wii is capable of a lot more awesome games if people would just make them. I don't know why people seem to want the Wii to be dead.

The first party line up has dried up, not much to look forward to and people starting to think this is because they have shifted focus to something new, decent games take a couple of years to make.

It's pretty much a similar story with 360, Gears 3 has been shifted to fill the void and they seem to be just relying on Kinect and Call Of Duty to keep the console going, they must be making next gen games by now.

Sincerely, I don't expect a Wii 2 reveal at this year's E3--an assertion I'd like to bolster with some intellectual scaffolding, yet Nintendo moves too erratically to make pointing to their precedents convincing--but I am willing to say that, if Nintendo did pull a new home-system out of the bag, they'd have two consecutively impressive E3s under their belt. From 2006 to 2009, I'd been relatively crestfallen with Nintendo's E3 shows, but 2010, with its convincing two-hour presentation and subsequent surprise deluge of 3DS reveals, tempted me into thinking that the repeated disappointments were worth it in the end: the show was made all the sweeter by the lack of expectation for anything good.

After the roaring success of 2010, I feel certain that 2011 won't be as moving a performance for Nintendo. If Nintendo did show off a new machine, then, I'd once again be excitedly caught off-guard.

I expect them to tease something at E3, maybe just the controller, not the console or games like they did at E3 2005.

Sakurai on twitter said "I wonder if I will soon be able to create on an HD system"

EA said "Wii PS2 are legacy platforms, Nintendo will come with strike two"

Mark Rein said "Yeah we don't hate Nintendo or anything if they had a system that could run Unreal Engine 3 we would be on it like bees on flowers."

TBH all they need to do is make it as powerful as a 360 but add in at least a 1Gb of extra RAM and a faster cache to really kill load times.

I want to see an evolution of the wiimote that reads your pulse like the vitality sensor to dynamically change games on the fly based on how your heart rate is. Tech like that would be crazy innovative.

We have confirmed with multiple sources that this new home system is capable of running games at HD resolutions. There are conflicting reports, however, as to whether its graphics will be comparable to those on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 – meaning it could surpass or fall short of those systems. Either way it will offer competitive specifications. Moving to HD should greatly help Nintendo and its new console in getting more multi-platform triple-A titles like Portal 2 or Mortal Kombat. This, in turn, will strengthen Nintendo's historically poor relationship with third-party publishers/developers.

In fact, Nintendo is already showing publishers the system in an effort to get them interested and allow them plenty of time to start developing titles in anticipation of the system's reported late 2012 launch. This advance support marks a change from when the Wii launched. At that time, several Western publishers were outright surprised by the announcement, and it affected the software support for the platform.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata himself acknowledged that it needs to do a better job with its publishing partners at a 3DS press conference in the fall of 2010. "We need to decrease the concern that only Nintendo software can sell well on Nintendo platforms and third-party software cannot sell in the same volume. We feel a need to have closer ties with our third-party developers from the beginning."

"Nintendo is doing this one right," said an anonymous source. "[It's] not a gimmick like the Wii." What else, beyond graphics, this may infer about the system is unknown. What kind of controls the system will support (we imagine a need for both classic analog configurations and motion controllers) or what level of software and infrastructure Nintendo will provide for online gaming is also unknown. However, it's a positive sign that the system might be more than just an HD Wii.

We've heard about an HD Wii for some time now, and the time is perfect – almost necessary – for Nintendo to jump start itself with this new system. The company has been feeling the bite since Wii sales have declined from previous years, and this week's news that Nintendo could be dropping the price of the Wii on May 15 could be a precursor to this announcement and an attempt to move as many Wii units as possible out of the retail channel before the new system hits.

We do not have confirmation if this new system will be backward compatible with the Wii or if it will even carry the Wii branding as has often been rumored. It is our understanding that Nintendo is trying to embrace the western gamer and will likely launch a new brand with this console . Around the office we have dubbed the system Nintendo HD. However, this information at this point is conjecture.

We contacted a Nintendo representative regarding this information, and while they wouldn't comment on it or the company's E3 plans, they did sign off with a intriguing "stay tuned."

They had to give way to HD sooner rather than later.

Rumoured E3 reveal for a later 2012 launch Image

If true, it's surprising they'd announce something so soon after the 3DS launch.

Already posted it but probably worth a new thread.

Hope it upscales Wii and Gamecube games to 1080p.

He is two years late by the time it launches.

It would be too soon to launch this year. But remember DS wasn't released worldwide until 2005. And Wii had that epic E3 in 2005 where they showed off the Wii, but had announced the Revolution in 2004 at E3. I fully expect a 2012 worldwide launch.

If it is releasing 2012 and it is only as powerful as the 360/PS3 then Nintendo have failed again, the 360 is six years old and can now be purchased for £150 with a 250gb HDD. To release a new machine next year only comparable to a 7 year old machine will be a giant strawberry float up.

It needs to be a lot more powerful than the current HD machines to get the support from third parties developing for Nextbox and PS4.
