I didn't say i didn't like it. Ithad some great scenes, some great performances but overall i found it to be that i said previously.

I found the juxtaposition of the creation scenes with the family scenes jarring and pretentious and self indulgent and i thought the redemptive ending was very schmaltzy and unsatisfying.

A decent film, maybe even a good one but certainly not a great one.

I still haven't worked out how I feel about The Tree of Life. It's one of those films that will utterly polarise people. I admire the film immensely, and I admire Malick for making it. It is one of the most personal and heartfelt films I've ever seen. There were times in the film when I was in awe at its beauty, and as a parent there were times in the film I saw myself in Brad Pitt.

However, I'm not sure whether I enjoyed it. It took some work getting through it. :|

I can definitely see how it would turn people off and while I have only seen it once I get the feeling if I were in a different mood I may have found it slow and pretentious. Luckily I was in the right mood for it. Brad Pitt was particularly excellent and it is stunning to look at.

I won't know what I truly think of Tree of Life until a few years have passed (at least). It's not pretentious though - a silly buzz word thrown around so much it doesn't even mean anything anymore. Like 'overrated'.

The Help. Nominating Chastain for that film and not Tree of Life.

I swear I saw Chico & Rita back in 2010 too. :|

A few things.

The Guard should have been in there, and Extremely Loud and Close and Dangerous is a pile of buggery. Only reason that's in there is because of the subject matter.

Bit annoyed Fincher missed out, and even more so Trent Reznor & Ross, the soundtrack is amazing.

I liked Moneyball, but it does remind me of a solid 90s film that wouldn't have got a nomination then.

Next years list will be dominated by the new Star Trek film. I'm thinking 9 nominations and winning at least 8 including best film, best actor, actress and supporting duo, best effects, best story and best director with the only none winning nomination being best supporting actress for some super hot alien wench.

Suck on that LOTR.

I don't think it's pretentious, a film that genuine can't be. Malick took a real gamble with it and could have exposed to himself to ridicule. How many film makers are brave enough and original enough to make something like this? There were some missteps in the film I felt (dinosaurs). Maybe I'll feel differently when I do see it again.

I think it does polarise opinion and i think that's a helathy thing to. I disagree that pretentious and overrated are somehow no longer valid adjectives, though. Piffle!

It makes me sad that I didn't love The Artist. Still wouldn't mind it winning Best Picture though.

Moneyball. Nothing original about it, just a brilliant sports film. Hope Tree Of Life does well too.
