Should you play Outer Wilds? It's an easy answer in a way but a large, all-caps, bold, emphatic YES does not exactly make for a convincing argument.
Outer Wilds Picture in your mind an immensely-not-to-scale picture of our own solar system, because in order to fit the sun and every planet on a piece of paper distances have to be shortened, larger bodies made smaller and smaller bodies made larger. That is the setting of Outer Wilds. It's a densely packed, miniature solar system filled to the brim with mysteries, wonder and ideas. Every location (be it a planetary body, a comet, a space station or something else) has been designed with a distinct challenge in mind that makes traversing each location uniquely and wonderfully terrifying/joyous.
And that traversal is a lot of fun: your ship does have an auto-pilot setting, but it's only useful for the initial journey to that far-off planet (and just barely, at that). Circling the planet and deciding where to land, descending towards the surface and then executing the landing, carefully. Mastering the full six degrees of freedom of your rickety spaceship is a joyous (and, at times, stressful) experience.
Movement outside of your ship is no less exciting. There's a jetpack, and it jets in just as many directions as your spaceship.
The stories it tells or, rather, the stories it has you piece together through scattered chat-logs, notes and recordings, are also really good. There's always a few narrative threads pulling on you to go explore here or there, and the conclusions to the surprisingly many mysteries going on in this tiny solar system are all very satisfying.
It's not without faults, but if any of the above sounds like your kind of thing then those faults will not stand in the way of what is an unforgettable experience.

Yeah, I don't know. That's all I've got without spoiling anything, and I probably spoiled too much. That's how much this game benefits from going in blind. Go play this game if you haven't already. It's amazing.
Did the EGS exclusivity and Xbox timed exclusivity kill the hype for this or something? How is it not being talked about more? It's easily one of the best games the year.

It's come out at such a busy time which is why I haven't yet picked it up, despite definitely wanting to play it.
This game is pretty special. I've spent awhile just exploring the different planets and things without any particular goals in mind, so I have quite a few leads to follow up on in my data log. Some of the worlds are really interesting, and it does make you feel like you're out exploring some vast solar system.
Just completed my first real puzzle quantum imaging on the water planet so it's good to have made some tangible progress to go along with my wanderings.
I decided to give this topic a look as I've vaguely been looking at getting The Outer Worlds and thought I'd see why theres a second topic with a typo in it's title. I've just seen the reception this is getting and read the blurb and I think I'm actually going to get this first. Crazy how things can happen like that.
Really enjoying this game. I think I've got my first hint of what the end goal is. I've read some things about the sun station and how it could end up destroying the solar system. Presumably that's what causes the sun to explode so I need to shut it down.
It can get a bit frustrating having to regularly reset, especially when you aren't paying attention and your autopilot flies you into the sun Otherwise this could turn out to be one of my favourite games of ever.
