Developer Mobius Digital's wonderful sandbox space exploration adventure Outer Wilds (which was named Eurogamer's favourite game of 2019, don't you know) will be waving goodbye to Epic Games Store exclusivity and hello to Steam on 18th June.

I played this for about half an hour a few months ago and didn't get it at all. That time was spent bouncing off stuff and mining on the moon, so I just filed it under 'not for me' and put it off.

BUT THEN...I decided to give it another go last night, and it was a completely different experience. For whatever reason, I was able to get a grasp on the controls, there was no mining, I noticed the music much more and then, just as I was starting to find out about some of the relics on the moon, a Thing happened and it all became even more interesting.

Really glad I picked it back up again, it'll be interesting to see where it goes next!

Just realised that I have this on the Xbox (apparently it was a freebie for watching the 2018 E3 conference on mixer) is it worth a play through?

I think I'll get into this after I'm done on the Obra Dinn.

I completed this recently and thought it was excellent.
The side missions for the crew are really good and while it is stripped down there's still the possibility to build characters.
I went with no combat ability and everything in lock picking and persuasion and it worked well.

I highly recommend this and it's on Gamepass so if you have that it's free so why not.

Makes sense, what with there being no combat in the game at all.

A strange satellite photo that can’t be explained. A new museum exhibit that marks the trailhead for one last journey into the wilds. Should you pull at the thread and unravel the solar system’s deepest secret, or is some knowledge better left in the dark?

Out 28th Sep.

Switch version coming end of 2021, wonder if the DLC will be included?

Can't wait for the expansion, hopefully it gets the game back in the spotlight a bit and more people give it a go, it's a genuine masterpiece.

Only six days until the DLC.
Legit have the 28th booked off work for this.

I played through this a fair bit, but I found at times I lost my momentum when I was struggling to figure out what to do next. Tempted to get back into it, and the DLC is potentially a good time to do that. Without spoilers, is it something that's peppered into the base game, or content that goes afterwards?

It's not really clear at this point. From what the developers have said the DLC will be accessible by anyone, but it's recommended that you use a previous save file because there are "nonessential" aspects affected by what you have recorded in the ship log.

Huh fair enough. Figure it'll start over anyway and I'm sure it'll work out in the end.

This game is literally the scariest game I think I've ever played. I keep playing bits and pieces of it but just being off on those deadly planets and out in space just fills me with dread. It's a very well made game but I'm not sure I'll ever complete it.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

Just started up the game to reacquaint myself before the DLC. Flew to Brittle Hollow and then, just for fun, decided to eject the cockpit while flying over the planet. I somehow got out of that safely.
Explored for a bit underneath the crust, before deciding to go back to Timber Hearth... and then I remembered my spaceship was now in two pieces.

Then I saw the Quantum Moon in orbit around the planet and had an idea. I took a picture of the Quantum Moon, and then I used the jetpack to get myself into orbit around the planet. Came in a bit fast and barely survived the landing on the Quantum Moon, found the tower, went in, shut the door and turned my flashlight off and on until the moon was in orbit around Timber Hearth. Went outside and flew into the sky, and then I used the last of my fuel to thrust towards Timber Hearth. Managed to land safely just in time for the supernova.

I love this game.
