It's not Eurogamers Game of the Decade. It's one of the them, but it's not THE one. They're doing a series on the Games of the Decade and they've looked at a load of games including GTA Online, Dark Souls, Skyrim, The Outer Wilds and Dishonored.

Some really dubious choices in that "Games of the Decade" feature from EG, but they always seem to be all over the shop with their opinions!

So many neat touches in this video. Lots of little nods and references.

Was excited to play this after hearing all the buzz but I don't think it's for me. It's intriguing enough and I live the concept but I haven't found any of it particularly engaging and don't have the time or patience for the gameplay loop.

Just started this today after hearing nothing but glowing reports.

I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to be doing, anyone got any tips. I’m not very good with these obtuse exploration puzzle games, I lose patience. Is there some path I can follow for a few hours to get me into the game and it’s mechanics, rather than just wander aimlessly until something clicks or I give up.

What have you done so far?

General tips:
There isn't really any one path you can follow for a long time. You're always going to come up against a wall of some sort while exploring. All of the story threads are heavily interconnected and you're meant to find hints while exploring one thread that will clue you in on where to go next in another location.

The computer on your ship holds onto all of the information you've come across (and even remembers it across loops) and organizes it in two different ways: by location and by story thread. It's very helpful for deciding what to follow up on next.

Try to find each of the other astronauts from Timber Hearth and see what they're up to.

After a few loops you'll get the ability to sleep at campfires to fast forward time. Helpful when you need to do something at a specific time but don't want to wait for it.

There's plenty to explore on the starting planet itself.

Walked around the base of the starting planet, went to the moon and then the Brittle planet. Nothing really seemed doing on the first two but I found a crashed ship on the third and having been exploring around that. Have learned a bit about what’s going on but would still like a bit of direction.

Yeah... that's basically your direction. All that you learn hints at where you should go next. See a location mentioned in a conversation between two Nomai? That's likely to be important to what that conversation is about.

I'll try my best to give you something concrete, but information games like this one are best experienced when the exploration and discovery is self-directed so I hope this gets you curious enough about the mysteries of the story that you can figure the rest out for yourself:

The structure that's in orbit around Giant's Deep is very important. Important thing to remember when going there is that the blue squares spiraling towards the structure create artificial gravity so you can easily land your ship there.
Explore that fully and see where the information you find there directs you.

The lack of direction is one thing but the game is just so horrible to play that it takes away any satisfaction from discovery. I've really tried to get into this but I haven't enjoyed a single moment of playing the game.

However good the story is this area of the game has had a free pass from reviewers as it would be slated in any major release.

Wat... The only reason actually exploring the world via the two modes of transportation (spaceship and jetpack) isn't my favorite part of the game is only because of all of the other things the game does as well or better.

Its stripped back for sure but by no means horrible to play. Though maybe my standards have plummeted by playing Dreams the last week.

Controlling the ship is just awful. On foot is generally ok until you die for some bizarre reason,.the physics engine goes mental or you need to do any platforming. It's poor compared to just about every other first person adventure game.

No?

I will say though, flying the ship definitely has a pretty steep learning curve and if the game in general doesn't grab you then I can see the flight controls being a big deterrent to enjoying the rest of the game.

But me, I love how intricate the contrrols are and getting to learn to move and orientate in all six axes was a big highlight of the game for me.

I'm more frustrated because I would like to dig deeper into the game but it's not an insignificant amount of time to go through the whole wake up, get back in your ship, fly to place, land, etc to get to where you were. I've gotten a decent amount on the rumour board and none of it has felt particularly interesting in their own so far.

It probably doesn't help that it could be a week or two in-between me last playing the game and it seems like something that at least needs you to have a good grasp of everything you've seen.

I don’t have any problem with the ship but it is a bit frustrating having to re-fly to planets when I make a quick mistake.

I’m going to find a guide and follow it a bit as I’m not smart enough for these types of games.

A bit overwhelmed with this at the moment. I'm really enjoying it but it seems like I have a gooseberry fool load of strands to follow that are leading nowhere or to confusion. I guess all I can do is keep pushing on but I'd like something tangible to show I've done something right or am making progress because currently it's a bit too woolly.

Reluctantly I think I’m doing with this. I like what how it’s set up but I just can’t grasp onto anything in it, I feel like there a probably connections I should be understanding by now but I’m too dumb to see the through threads. The constant resetting, while fundamental also wears thin.
