Campaign: starts great, gets really strawberry floating dull for the middle half, ends well. The story that plays out over the last three levels is actually pretty good but absolutely nothing happens for the middle third.

Gameplay: hit and miss. It's trying to go for a DOOM Eternal combat flow/dance type mechanic but it's too clunky to work. The level design is from another game, a slow covershooter like Gears, which is absolutely not what this game is. The sloppy controls and bad design means the combat flow never does what it should.

Difficulty: what world tier did people finish on? I swear on my strawberry floating life that anything above 6 is impossible solo, at least as a trickster. I'm level 30, with a lvl 29 Legendary main gun and I've never gotten more than 2/3rds towards the next tier. Trying is utterly frustrating, and then when you hit endgame it doesn't even matter as that works on a separate difficulty system! It's all a bit of a mess.

It's ok. The loop is fun, and the broad strokes of the plot was ok. Can't see myself playing it for super long but I'll probably grind up the endgame a bit.

I think I may have had an easier time due to using a Technomancer.
The Turret abilities are incredibly handy as they do damage and make some enemies fire at them rather than you.
I've not played the other classes at all and don't intend to make another character.
I'm on world tier 10 and doing expeditions and have a loadout I like but it's far from optimised.

I don't know how to progress in this game.

At the moment, I cannot do any Expedition higher than Tier 1 because I die immediately. Either I'm underleveled or it's because of the latest armour-erasing patch or both. I have tried to join online expeditions to gain Titanium to level up my gear but I have yet to finish one due to server issues.

I don't know what to do.

I've completed all the campaign side quests, I am unable to make any notable progress in the endgame so I'm just stuck doing Tier 1 Expeditions over...and over...and over. I feel I should be earning hundreds of Pod points per run as the lowest price equipment Tiago sells is 3 or 4 thousand points, whereas I'm actually stuck getting 25 per 10 minute run (at this rate, it would take 250 hours to get enough pod points to unlock the final encounter).

As far as I can see, at the moment the game is completely broken. It's the most frustrated I've been in strawberry floating ages.

Edit: You know what, uninstalled. I'd refund it if I could.

It's odd that your experience is so different to mine.
Maybe it is all down to character choice and how you've set up a character as the expeditions don't seem that bad.
I can absolutely see why you'd be frustrated being stuck at tier 1 and I've heard the multiplayer is a pile of shite which is a huge shame as that could have been fun.
I've just got to tier 8 expeditions and I'm unsure what to say as I'm not great at games and I just don't even bother any more with games like the Souls series. It's also a shame you can't gift or even drop items as I'd gladly do a run with you and try and help.

The only explanation I can think of is maybe the glitches and bugs are hitting your class more than mine?

This is what's so bizarre. I'm hearing of people being affected by the new patch but a lot just seems to be that I'm no good at the game.

Now, I'm not a pro-gamer or anything but I'm also not generally that bad at single-player games. So either I'm playing this completely wrong, or yeah. I've found the one game I'm genuinely terrible at. Before deleting I'd set up my character using various endgame builds I'd found online and still was getting murdered on solo expedition level 3. As in, I'd be full health with shield, take one hit and die kind of murdered.

I'm going to wait until the next big patch before heading back in as it was starting to affect my mood in a way I haven't felt since Overwatch (which I was just generally shite at!)

Edit: Pete, what are your general stats? Like, health, anomaly level, armour, that sort of thing?

Just finished the campaign. Quite enjoyed the story until the end

I played solo as a trickster and did run into difficulty spikes. I reckon it'd be a better experience with pals. Don't think I will bother with any of the endgame stuff though. A good game pass game.

I'm on world tier 10 and reached tier 8 expeditions and just got to item level 41.

My health is 9k and armour is 44k so not amazing. My firepower is 38k and anomaly power 20k.
Most of my armour has bonus firepower, close range damage and a mix of status power and cooldown reduction so again not minmaxed all that much.
My main weapon is the Red Widow assault rifle tactical variant with weakness trap 3 (this is amazing) and resistance breaker and has armour pierce, close range damage and status power boosts.

I'm using the tech shaman tree and I'm going all out with additional status effect damage nodes which apparently is a rubbish set-up but works for me.

I've not bothered even considering looking about if my items are god rolls as that would just add a whole new world of grinding and just nope.

Problem is, I have no idea how to increase those really. Unless it's just running low level expeditions over and over

Have you been making sure all your items are upgraded?
Talk to Dr Zahedi and look at raising attributes as this makes a huge difference.
Also make sure all the mods you have link into your build and play style.
I play quite oddly in that the character I use is supposed to be a sniper support but I love just running into the middle of blobs of enemies and shoving my turrets on the ground next to me and just trying to survive.
I have the Freeze skill which makes everyone in a radius (except bosses) get frozen and it has the added benefit of not having to know the layout of the level which I have no chance of remembering.

Also remember the more damage you do the more healing you get so I mostly don't bother with cover at all now.

I doubt my style will let me do anything above about expedition tier 10 but I'll be happy if I can manage a level 10 clear as I have no plans for ultimate minmaxing.

I'm not sure why but I do love a good turret.
It's why it always upset me the turrets in The Division were always a bit rubbish

I think this was the issue. Nowhere does it tell you that levelling up gear is the way to go. I was farming Expeditions looing for higher level gear but that's not the loop.

It's Do Expedition -> sell all your junk for scrap -> convert scrap to Titanium -> level up all your gear -> increase World Tier to raise level cap - > repeat

I'm actually making progress now, and expeditions are bringing back some of that Diablo III, mowing-through-enemies endorphin rush.

But man. They need a better tutorial here.

EDIT: Now I'm stuck again. Hit the max level of gear I can equip (37) and I'm not sure how to increase the cap?

God this gooseberry fool is so badly explained.

EDIT2; I've read all the guides I can find and I still haven't any idea why the max gear I can equip is level 37? All my gear is max level and I can't beat challenge tier 5 expeditions with it so I'm stuck at 37? Even Destiny is better than this.

I totally agree that nothing is explained.
Are you breaking stuff down to make shards as the item level is only half the levelling.
The other bit is upgrading the item attributes like firepower or cooldown reduction which is also not explained.

You may find that your gear can be improved.

You seem to be doing everything to give the game a chance so you obviously must enjoy it which makes the lack of help it gives all the more infuriating.

Yeah, I am actually enjoying it now, but my didn't it take a lot of work. I was brute forcing my way through as I thought that's what I should have been doing. Turns out, I was attempting Tiers I was massively underleveled for, with no way to check whether that was the case.

I now think I've figured out what I need to do: unlock World Tiers to increase my equipment cap to 42, then continue through the Challenge tiers at a higher level.

Yep. And that was my first experience of the game.

But still. Now I understand the loop and am playing at the right levels, I'm really enjoying it. I'm still finding human enemies much, much harder than beasts, but I am making Tier progress.

I find the easiest expedition to be the Archways of Enoch.
It has no real bosses and has a 15 minute time limit for gold so I can easily breeze through it on gold at tier 7 now.
Not tried 8 yet but it shouldn't be a problem.
Give it a whirl and see how you do.

Hit another difficulty spike. I've just made it to World Tier 13 by leveling up all my gear, attributes included, and although it's been getting steadily more difficulty I've been progressing nicely. Now everything's impossible again. Enemies that were going down in one or two shots are now bullet-sponges, bosses are impossible and I still can't reliably complete tier 4 Expeditions.

God, when this game is good it's good. But it keeps tripping itself up, either with the opaque systems or terrible spikes.
