I usually rotate between Mercy/Orisa/Mei depending on the map type. For Payloads I'll typically play Orisa and sit on the payload. For Capture point I'll usually play Mei unless we need another healer in which case I'll switch to Mercy.
But I've definitely had terrible luck with leavers so far this week, I mean multiple matches in a row sometimes where I'd be on a team and someone would leave partway through the first round or just as it ended. Even had a troll today too who was afk until about a minute into the match, before taking Widow and just running around way behind the front lines just randomly firing at the scenery.
At the risk of being self-indulgent I'm equal parts amused/annoyed about the discourse about the game at the moment. It usually goes a bit like:
mei/sym/torb/... mains: it sucks that my fave character is rarely viable
xdeathgenji98x: strawberry floating lol xdeathgenji98x: check out this strawberry floating BRONZE NOOB xdeathgenji98x: WHO CAN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND xdeathgenji98x: THIS GAME IS ABOUT SWITCHING AND COUNTERING xdeathgenji98x: if red team are playing one of the 26 heroes that counter you xdeathgenji98x: either SWITCH OFF or strawberry floating UNINSTALL YOU USELESS IDIOT
[blizzard release brigitte]
xdeathgenji98x: xdeathgenji98x: what xdeathgenji98x: no xdeathgenji98x: strawberry float xdeathgenji98x: BLIZZARD WHAT THE strawberry float xdeathgenji98x: i can't believe they can't see hwo strawberry floating DUMB it is xdeathgenji98x: do these strawberry floating STUPID IDIOTS REALLY THINK IT IS ACCEPTABLE to put this NOOB HERO in the game that i have to remember to stay three yards away from if i don't want to die xdeathgenji98x: this game is about ME, GENJI, DOING WHATEVER I WANT AND I WON'T FYUCKIUNG ACEPT THIS xdeathgenji98x: I QUIT I'M GOING TO FORTNITE
Brigitte might be overtuned but the flanker main tears have been delicious. Hope they actually follow through and leave.
£12.99 and 100% of the money goes to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Available til May 21.
I think it's a cool move by Blizzard but given it's on a character I don't really use, it's a little pricey for me.
(The cynical part of me wonders if this is testing for future sales of event skins with this whole legal loot boxes stuff, does that make me a bad person?)
I might grab it for the Charity donation since it's 100% and Mercy is one of my mains. I've decided to take a break from the game for a week or two though. Near non-stop leavers have completely stopped the game being fun when I've played so far this season.

I'm sorry man, the borderlines tend to be much more toxic than the middle of each rank.
Are you locking Mei? There's nothing wrong with it, but that can really send people apeshit in low gold. I'm a Mei main but I can hardly play her in comp because people go nuts.

I only ever use her on point capture maps where her wall can be a great blocker to earn a few seconds and her ult can clear a point entirely since you can't block it once it triggers. I used to use her on Payload defence but she's not as good there due to the mobility of the point so I've generally stayed away from her there unless the team needs a defence hero.
With her recent buffs Mei is at least kind of viable on all modes now. She's more teamcomp (both yours & enemy) than map dependent, I think. But people just hate anything off-meta, so there you go.
I'm not buying the t-shirt, pink doesn't suit me since I suit darker colours better, but I might put some streams on in the background muted or something to get the sprays.
Thought I'd dip my toes back into Competitive for 3 matches and decided to switch back to Mercy maining. Why did I bother?
First match went relatively well overall but our Roadhog basically seemed to consider Overwatch a Single Player game where you just run off by yourself. When he was criticised for running off alone by multiple people in the team his response was "This isn't a MOBA it's an online FPS". Honestly don't know how we won that one.
Second match I pick Mercy, someone picks Rein, 3 people then immediately pick DPS. Rein throws a tantrum and threatens to switch to DPS unless we go 2-2-2. 5 seconds later he switches to Hanzo. 6th player picks Roadhog, Hanzo doesn't switch back to a tank. As expected we lose the first round. The Rein/Hanzo then switches to Lucio for the second round, then after 1 minute declares we're all stupid strawberry floating n00bs because we aren't steamrolling the opposing team and just pisses about in the spawn room for the rest of the match. Everyone else runs off in completely different directions and then all 4 complain that I'm not healing them all at the same time when they're all in different parts of the map with no line of sight to boost between them.
Third match we get a payload attack as the first round, only tank is Dva. Someone picks Genji and someone else spends the entire countdown asking to play Genji before eventually picking Ana. One of our DPS leaves the match with a minute to go whilst the Dva refuses to stay anywhere near the payload or the rest of the team so those of us on it have no protection. Dva then spams "I need healing" whilst halfway across the map from the rest of the team. Second round the leaver comes back, the Ana manages to pick Genji first and spends the entire rest of the match asking for someone else to pick Ana. The leaver picks Rein but decides to play him like a DPS and uses his shield maybe once for the entire round.
How can even a good player do anything with matches like that?
Sometimes you can't do anything. You get a thrower and that's that. But assuming you never throw - and you play enough for the law of large numbers to take effect... - the other team is 20% more likely to have a thrower than your team, so being a 'non-thrower' should have a small positive effect on your SR.
If you get a weird rando team comp, all you can do is try your best with what you have. If your team can't peel because there are no tanks, try Moira or Brigitte and peel for yourself. If you're playing second healer and there are no peels, switch to D.Va. If your team are very flanky and never group up, try Lucio so you can get in and out with them. If the other team are going for wombo-combos (Grav + Dragon or Nano + Blade) then switch to Zen for Trans. If you have a bunch of less-mobile hitscan on a map with long sightlines, you could consider a switch to Orisa, as a barrier will be high value for your DPS. If red team are all squishy with like a Zen solo-healing or whatever, sometimes you can actually carry harder as Winston than you could as a healer. And sometimes you just look at your team, think "strawberry float it", and focus on playing the best Hog or Mei you can.
You can help the 'grouping up' problem by never pushing by yourself (unless you're stalling last point). I often run in just as the last person on my team dies on point, and then I'm instantly slaughtered -- that's on me for being impatient, I should have kept an eye on the kill-feed and hung back. You can also give your teammates a reason to group up with you. You have 4 chat calls before chat goes on cooldown, and I find "Group up! Valkyrie is ready! Group up! Valkyrie is ready!" is often more effective than just "Group up!" x 4.
I'm really considering switching to Quick Play to get in some practice with Brigette and perhaps maining her for a while given that she seems to be a bit of 'jack of all trades' really. Can do a bit of tanking, a bit of DPS and a bit of frontline healing with her passive ability as well as the active heal/armour ability.
Edit - Maybe there's something to this Brigitte lark after all
