I whip up a batter that drives the wife wild - then I give it a sprinkle of sugar and a splash of my own lemon squeezings - delicious :datass:

Lemon and sugar all day long, I'm a traditionalist :capnscotty:

AND I eat it with a fork and a spoon, the ultimate combo for rolling a pancake :capnscotty:

I think I have perfected a means of mixing plain and self-raising flour for just the right degree of fluffiness. As for serving, maple syrup (100% pure, not any cheap rubbish) and a dash of lemon.

Wait.

Golden Syrup and sugar, at the same time?!

Of course

Sugar adds a little bit of crunch

Surprised you've got any teeth left to crunch with.

Golden syrup for me, but that’s a compromise because I can’t get to M&S. Their sticky toffee sauce is outrageously good, and I’d urge you to try it.

I go to a friend's nearby who cooks enough for about ten each and has every filling you could want. Usually start with a few bacon and cheese pancakes, then a classic lemon and sugar, then some banana and squirty cream. Last year I discovered that M&M chocolate spread is amazing in pancakes!

The day is so good that we now do it every 6 months instead of annually.

Sounds like a superspreader event.

My wife makes pancakes for our boys quite regularly. They cover theirs with all manner of sprinkles and chocolate or strawberry sauces and eat them flat.

I put sugar and lemon juice on mine, and occasionally a small amount of toffee sauce too. Rolled up and eaten with a knife & fork.

2 pancakes, max 3 depending upon thickness.

We're having savoury pancakes for dinner (filling them with mushrooms spinach and cheese) then for desert sweet pancakes (lemon+sugar/ maple syrup / peanut butter)

Probably go old school lemon and sugar this year. Feels classy.

What about a Twirl rolled up in one?

I tend to go for a nice blueberry jam or honey with banana and lemon juice. Gluten free batter too.

However when I do eat them they're always savoury ones (no sugar, lemon juice or maple strawberry floating syrup goes anywhere near them), usually chilli in them, rolled up enchilada style.

My dad made a pancake lasagne once. I think you and that dish will have much to discuss. My sister detests pancakes but was happily knocking it back until my dad did the whole "guess the secret ingredient" thing on her.

They’re similarly good as a substitute for cannelloni.

I'm sorry but we didn't leave Europe for you to then go and eat savoury pancakes or 'crepes'.

Better than these American-style abominations that got pushed into my inbox this week.

American pancakes with Biscoff spread, with or without a few bits of sliced banana, are scrumptious. Well worth a try, though they are incredibly sweet.
