Paper Mario: The Origami King also introduces a new ring-based battle system that lets you flex your puzzle-solving skills to line up scattered enemies and maximize damage. While the enemies may be crafted from paper, these dynamic, turn-based battles are far from stationary. It’ll require a sharp mind to make short work of these crafty enemies.

Is this closer to Thousand Year Door or Super Paper Mario though? Can't tell from the trailer.

Given recent history, I'll wait for reviews.

I am... cautiously excited.

It looks like an RPG.
It looks like it might have battle partners.
It looks like there might be characters that aren’t standard Mario baddies, even if they’re mostly origami versions of standard Mario baddies.

We haven’t yet seen whether there’s a sticker equivalent mechanic, or a level select, or some non-battle mechanic to increase HP.

But... I’m excited. Cautiously.

Looks interesting, seems to be a ton of variety in that trailer so can't really tell what the game actually plays like

There appears to be a town round about 1:33. That’s good news!

I didn't play any of the others because I heard they weren't as good, but I loved TTYD. Trailer looks great, hope it reviews well.

Looks good to me! And only 2 months away!?

Not sure why they didn't put this in the March mini though?

Super Paper Mario was fine, good even. Sticker Star was disappointing and bad. IMO, natch.

Wait, Nintendo still make games. I wasn’t prepared for this :o

Toads, Toads everywhere though

It’s clearly not like TTYD. So hope people aren’t getting their hopes up. I wonder if they know its gooseberry fool because it seems like a really odd decision not to have included this in the last Direct, given its out so soon.

It just looks like Colour Splash, but being optimistic for a second, with a non card/sticker paste battle system, which is only a positive thing.

I hope it’s the move in the right direction it looks like it could be. Shame they couldn’t shake off the brain dead Miyamoto ‘duh why not use only core Mario characters’ restriction though. Because that gooseberry fool made Colour Splash way more tedious than it could have been.

For those after the correct rating

PM - 8
TTYD - 10
SPM - 5
SS - 6
CS - 5

Is the Metroid thing a hint to an announcement or just a joke do you think?

Was SPM an RPG? I remember playing it and being a bit disappointed but I can't remember why.

It was more of a platformer.
