Looks like blood's back on the menu boys!

Paradox, purveyors of titanic strategy titles for all ages, has recently debuted a dating site. Dalliances by various people have revealed that rather than being for people looking to hook up it's for beings looking to hook up... a bloodbag or two. It's a vampire dating site.

Did you know Paradox currently owns Vampire: The Masquerade?

Common perception is this is the build up to a new Vampire game, coming a mere 15 years after the excellent Bloodlines. It also contains a video with music that, as mentioned in the RPS article that contains it, screams vampire (not literally).

Get. strawberry floating. Hype.

Continuing on from my most successful thread ever, the one of the best western RPGs ever made is indeed getting a sequel. Crappy CGI trailer a go-go:

Good to see Waypoint's Patrick Klepek getting CGI acting work.

Eurogamer did get to sit down with a build however:

What's really impressive about this first early look at Bloodlines 2, though, is the city itself. You first emerge at the feet of Miner's Landing - a knowing call-back to Santa Monica pier in the first Bloodlines - and explore a city with a pointedly layered history, from the underground streets left in the aftermath of the Great Seattle Fire of 1889 to the divided lines on the streets above. "There are multiple factions in the city," explains Mitsoda. "What we wanted to do with the story was really reflect modern Seattle. There's really a struggle for the identity of Seattle right now, the music and cultural place that it was traditionally and the corporate and tech business that's transformed the city. There's this idea of how much Seattle can change before it's no longer Seattle. So we made the factions aspects of the old and the new. You can work for different factions, unlike the first game, you can switch factions and you can piss off factions to the point where they won't work with you anymore. We really wanted to give you the ability to change the story the way that you want it to go - you might see things a different way by working with a faction.

It has a strong pair of writers at least, a dude from the original team and Cara Ellison who's great. The first impressions were positive too.

I'm hopeful.

Interesting - I'm aware of Cara's journalism but what writing for games has she done before?

Excited by the prospect of this, the original was a cracking game!

She's done a lot for R* actually, as well as Dishonored 2. She's also writing the upcoming Void Bastards which looks great.

Excellent stuff, not a bad pedigree then!

Dishonored 2 had such a great writing team on it, always exciting to see names like Austin Grossman and Terri Brosius on anything.

I really enjoyed the original Bloodlines, the mission in the abandoned hotel was especially good as was the one where you discover a snuff movie racket. I never finished it however due to a game breaking glitch very near the end (which I understand has been fixed now) where you get captured by the vampire hunter guy and trapped in a cage, you escape and are supposed to fight the hunter (I think) but as soon as you escape the game would crash.

Yeah, the original is just... *chefs kiss.* The combat was...simplistic but the amount you could influence the world through dialogue, and the quality of that dialogue, made it a stand out game of the 2000s.

Interesting tidbit...it was actually the first game ever released on the Source engine, beating HL2 by a few months.

I got both games that Christmas. What a Christmas that was.

Bloodlines is absolutely my favourite game ever made so this news has had me on an elated high all day. It's going to be a long year of waiting. I haven't been able to convince anyone to play the pen and paper RPG with me so my need for this video game is so ridiculously high.

I just hope they can match the atmosphere and incredible dialogue of the first game. Which will be no easy task as the original was perfection. Gun play, stealth and that side of gameplay shouldn't be difficult to improve on so here's hoping.

Yes! This just below Cyberpunk in my anticipation levels. So glad these types of game are making come back. For a while there we just had to settle for whatever Bethesda put out.

For anyone interested, the World of Darkness documentary is available on Prime Video and it's really good.

One thing I immediately liked from the RPS preview was the ability to choose pronouns regardless of body type.

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/0 ... 2-preview/

World of Darkness has been going through a huge amount of scandals lately involving misogyny and racism (so much so that owner Paradox came in and sacked all WoD management, essentially ending its existence as a separate company), so I'm glad they're putting diversity front and centre on this

If you can get past the jank it's still 100% worth it. There's still a huge fan community who pump out patches on a fairly regular basis.

Did you ever play Redemption Taf? I've always been tempted to give it a look but it's getting on for a 20 year old game now so not sure how well it would hold up.

I didn't. From what I heard it was...ok. But nothing on the level of Bloodlines.

I really appreciated the first few hours of Bloodlines but it was just a bit too hard to look past its age and I ended up fizzling out. Didn't play it with mods or patches though, might look into that one day!
