As per the thread title really.

I started playing videogames when I was primary school age, but my parents had no prior knowledge or interest and they were far less prevalent then, so I imagine it happens more regularly nowadays at an earlier age.

My daughter started playing animal crossing last year at 3 years and 11 months. She picked it up very quickly.

Mine were about 4 when they got into games. My youngest has zero interest in games though.

My now 12yr old son and I first payed Lego Batman on the 360 together back when he was 4 I think..possibly 3.

It was to help him with his hand / eye coordination. Well that was what I told the wife!

We finished the game in coop. Then played loads of other Lego games too with him and his younger brother over the next few years till they moved onto Fortnite

At which point you disowned him.

Luckily for my kids, I don’t have any. If I did, they’d be playing Resident Evil before they could talk.

My 18 mo watched me play Burnout Paradise on switch the other day. He kept saying "uh-oh" when the cars got smashed up, it was very cute.

Why?

Our girl sometimes sees me playing Switch and she's very eager to get involved. She's had a go on my wife's Switch Lite, think it was Crash Nitro Kart.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

I misread that as 18 yo, and it came across quite differently.

She's worried about introducing screentime too early, doesn't want him to get addicted. I think WHO recommend you don't let them have screentime before 2.

I introduced my daughter to gaming as soon as she could hold a pad, I played on the spectrum as a toddler with my dad's help so figured it wouldn't harm. She actually learned to read just to play pokemon, she was stubborn and didn't want to read the books school was giving her.

My youngest always like to play with my old gameboy colour and Tetris. I don't think he really knew what he was doing but the beeps and boops made him laugh like a loon

His sister never really took an interest beyond watching us both play a bit of double dash. You can't have everything.

I had various friends who used to let their kids just sit and watch whilst they played stuff like GTA, Call of Duty and Assassins Creed and it never sat right with me at all. Obviously those games are massively inappropriate for young kids to be exposed to but also just in general the concept of playing a game with a baby or toddler just sat there feels wrong. Whilst they were younger I consciously tried not to play games or be on my phone whenever I was around my kids - why would I be playing a game or twatting about on my phone when I could actually be engaging with them directly?

We let our start playing stuff like Lego, art based games and Angry Birds on phones/tablets when they were maybe 3 or 4 but they weren't really interested in "real consoles" until maybe 5 or 6 I'd say. We play a lot of Switch games as a family - Mario Kart, Mario Maker, Luigi's Mansion, and Just Dance are probably the main contenders!

No, I've got two 15 year olds from a previous marriage.
