The stuff with Data was alright and at least they did sort of do some diplomacy. Very overwrought and cheesy though.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

(Spoilered because it's the ending and all that.)

Wow, the death + Data dream sequence was all very overwrought, wasn't it? I am usually a sucker for over-sentimental bits on screen, but it was laid on so thick it was distracting.

I liked Riker showing up, but "the Federation turns good again" was way too important to happen off-screen. That was, like, one of the core tensions of the show. It was worth showing Will giving an impassioned speech to some admiral at least.

It was still not as bad as I was expecting from the last episode.

Best bit was Soong straight up hitting the off switch on Evil Lady Data. Extremely funny. Second-best bit was Evil Romulan Sister's "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh".

It really undermines the ~complex political allegory~ they were going for, to have the problems with the Federation boil down to "there was one evil person who infiltrated it and now she's gone we'll start doing the right thing again". Especially to have that happen off-screen like it's no big deal. I found that really tone-deaf.

Again, not as bad as I was expecting, but still a disappointment.

I will still religiously watch the next season because it has Patrick Stewart in though so I guess they got me good.

It was better than I expected, and I was definitely glad to see things end on a more optimistic note than they started.

Though Discovery Season 3 will be along soon enough to slap that optimism out of the way and remind us that Star Trek has to be dark and grim now.

I was really happy with how that ended.

Riker continues to be the best. Couldn't sit there making pizza in the woods and let you have all the fun!

Looking forward to season 2 in all honesty.

I think my biggest wish was that there had been some more variety in the Starfleet ships rather than them all being the same class.

I would assume that this was a Federation battle fleet unlike the normal ragtag groups of exploration ships that get together.

I enjoyed that, and I enjoyed the series as a whole.

I enjoyed moments but it never really gelled for me. The characters weren't all that likeable - especially the incredibly irritating scientist woman. The best bits were those with old characters rather than new ones (Jeri Ryan was ace). The plot was shakey. The pacing was odd. The Federation was poorly drawn.

I'll watch it because Picard, and Star Trek, yay, but I haven't enjoyed this series much.

Yeah for the most part that was a big bag of shite. :(

Best part was Riker turning up to smile at the Romulans. Riker was probably the best part about the whole series in all honesty, I didn't think much of any of the new characters and Riker was the returning character that best lived up to their legacy from their previous appearances, everyone else - Picard included - just seemed a bit "off".

Stuff between Data and Picard could have been great but was so overwrought that it just became annoying rather than anything more resonating.

Data and Picard are kind of inherently stoic people. Their touching moment should have been understated to keep in character, I think. I feel like it would have had the intended impact then, rather than being distracting.

There was also absolutely zero chemistry between Rios and the scientist woman, so that rang completely hollow. Was disappointed Rios and Seven of Nine didn't end up strawberry floating at the end, they were much better together.

Raffi seemed like her character might have had potential when she was first conceived of, but she was pretty terrible in the show. I wanted her to be more of a mess, tbh, as she never really convinced as the hard-drinking screw-up with sad past who's actually pretty good-hearted (blah blah blah).

Yes! Agreed. Rios and Seven had more connection in that scene than he and Agnes did in the entire season.

I think Rios is a pretty likeable character and I can see them making something of Raffi but Agnes sucks.

I’d generally agree with that. I really liked Rios and I enjoyed Raffi but Jirati was a bit of a wet blanket. I enjoyed the series as a whole but the way they got around the thing at the end left me very cold.

I want to know what happened between Chakotay and Seven that seemed to end so badly it turned Seven into a Lesbian.

Apparantly Gerri Ryan always wanted Seven's character to be Bisexual or Gay but the writers at the time didn't allow it or something along those lines. I read it somewhere recently, but im not sure.

I guess once you've been linked to everyone and every thing in the hive mind, sticking to one gender is a bit redundant.
