Up until pretty much the end of the episode the Queen wasn't in control, Jurati was, it was only right at the end that the Queen was able to assert total control of the body. Presumably she hasn't had time to create many implants in Jurati's body yet which is why she hasn't gone on an assimilation spree. The nanoprobes work fast but we've only seen that for a normal drone in situations where a wider collective was already present. Presumably the assimilated body of a Queen takes a lot more time to create the necessary stuff to function, especially when in total isolation. It's been previously stated that part of the Borg being so efficient is the power of the collective too, so without that the nanoprobes may be functioning at a severely limited capacity.

Given that Picard was literally Locutus, I'd imagine that the Queen knows him rather more intimately than most.

I'm still confused about the whole thing with Picard's mother. Is the show trying to imply that when Picard was a child there was some tragedy that meant his mother was killed or taken away? Because that makes no sense since TNG in Season 1 showed him having a vision of his mother as an elderly woman that he immediately recognised as his mother.

Or is it supposed to be a vision of what happened to the mother of the Picard in the alternate timeline created by Q and he's just getting memories of it?

I'm thinking it's what you've said in your second line, but maybe it's not? Honestly I have no idea.

You're putting far more thought into this terrible show than the writers.

Hey it's not that bad, it's not amazing but it's been a fun ride and enjoyable watch.

My favourite part is counting how many people in the opening sequence have a "Producer" credit. Last I checked there were over 20.

All the best written shows are run by commitee.

Say what you like about Berman and Braga, they at least gave us post-Roddenberry TNG, DS9 and Voyager before it all went to gooseberry fool.

Too many cooks mean we end up with the relatively bland, homogenised "member this" show that we have here.

It's been better this season, definitely, but it's still a far cry from how good Trek has been.

I find it crazy that the best Nu-Trek shows are the two animated ones.

I mean it's been better than any of the writing in Discovery so far (low bar I know), at least it feels like the people who write Picard have actually watched some Star Trek before.
Discovery feels like it was written by people who've just heard about the pop culture surrounding Star Trek and spent about an hour clicking the Random Article button on Memory Alpha.

Damning with faint praise.

I could scribble a more coherent script for Discovery on a beer mat.

But yeah, I'm still enjoying Picard, more or less, and it is better than Discovery.

It just could have been much better. At least it has a definitive end in sight with the third season.

It's amazing that with these established characters and universe, this is the best the writers they could achieve.
There must be thousands of fans (or just decent writers) champing at the bit to make good stuff.

I actually feel sorry for all the cast (except Stewart and Spinner who I expect are more involved/say having) for being it.

I need to get onto Prodigy. The way Paramount are handling international distribution of Trek these days is an absolute farce.

Just saw that Nickelodeon in the UK is gonna start showing Prodigy this month. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Aimed at a younger age-group but I've adored it. Can't wait for the second half of season one later this year.

Some really nice characters in there, and having Kate Mulgrew as Holo-Janeway is great.

It's something we've not seen in Trek before which is also nice.

Definitely very meh. I mean it's not terrible but it doesn't really feel like there's any really stakes. I'm not really clear how anything relates to anything. The BQ stuff is kind of keeping me going because it's a cool dynamic.

Finally started season 2 of Picard and got to episode 3. Enjoying some of it, but still have that problem it’s more Patrick Stewart than Picard. And I love Patrick Stewart.

When we first met them the Borg were terrifying because they pursued their goals with the ruthless efficiency and unstoppable power of a single gargantuan machine, and because that machine could swallow you in moments (with a single touch!) if you made any mistake. Their weakness was that that they rigidly followed a plan accounting for a calculated range of outcomes and could therefore be surprised and derailed by human creativity.

Like a lot of TNG it's a heavy-handed but fun allegory - in this case about the value of diversity and individual liberty, and the failings of political ideologies which violently enforce conformity.

Depictions of the Borg have been undermining this and making them into lower stakes, more generic, less meaningful villains for a long time - arguably since First Contact, but definitely throughout Voyager - so I'm not surprised I don't really like how the Borg Queen is depicted in Picard. But still, it's quite annoying how mild they've managed to make the Borg this time around. Half of California should have been assimilated already! Ho hum.

He is, but it doesn't appear to have gone up on Amazon yet.
