I was wondering when it went up, it's not often I'm available to watch first thing Friday so when I went to watch while eating breakfast I found myself disappointed haha.

Today's episode was definitely the weakest of Season 2 so far for me. Seemed to do very little to progress things in the overall plot and everything important seemed like it could have been handled as just little bits in other episodes

It does feel like we went a bit back to square one this episode, but I enjoyed it overall. Maybe I just have very terrible taste but I'm having a lot of fun with this.

I'm really struggling with this show.
It doesn't feel like Star Trek even slightly and the story is all over the bloody place. I'm on the cusp of saying that a Trek series is actually a bit gooseberry fool which I thought was impossible. If the rest of the series doesn't do some serious explaining it's in deep trouble.

Really? This for me is easily better than Discovery, I'm actually really enjoying this season.

I'm just finding the story an absolute mess.
They don't seem to give a gooseberry fool about polluting the timeline and there doesn't seem to be any jeopardy as they just find magical ways around everything.
The singing in the last episode was a classic example as the most secure party on the planet suddenly has a mystery singer turn up and nobody gives even a single gooseberry fool.

Maybe I'm stupid but the plot doesn't make any sense and I suppose a hit and run in the future is so commonplace that they just don't give a gooseberry fool about those as well.

Apart from that though it's the best thing ever :shifty: .

There's also not enough space stuff going on

Like, I can understand people’s issues with plot and stuff like that but all the criticisms I’m seeing about them not caring about what happens to the timeline are ridiculous. Did they ever give a gooseberry fool about polluting the timeline? Half of TNG’s crew were on Cochrane’s first warp flight, Kirk and Spock strawberry floated off with some whales and wrecked chunks of San Francisco. Voyager messed with Sarah Silverman’s head. Ben Sisko killed and took the place of a union activist! The Federation give no strawberry floats about the timeline and never have!

Ultimately I think this season has been better than season 1, and better than Discovery (Not that hard). That said I'm only really interested in seeing how they dig out of this mess they've made.

I actually mostly liked this weeks episode to be fair.

James Callis is always fantastic, and I called that he was going to be his father almost immediately.
I liked that at the very least it was an attempt to delve a little deeper into Picard himself and look at his relationship with his parents, which we've never really had.
I liked that they at least talked about why BQ wasn't assimilating people, even if the reason seems bollocks (She needs endorphins to assimilate people? Really?).
Young Guinan is growing on me. I like the actress and she's done a good job of it.
Not sure why summoning a Q requires more than shouting "Oi Q!". It's been done before.
Absolutely hated the ending though. We've already had "Character gets arrested and drops their combadge" this season, we don't need it again.

But generally speaking I agree with a lot of what Crisp is saying as well.
Things happen with no real consequences or follow up.
There's too much instant resolution to problems. Lariss (Or whatever she's called in the current timeline) being able to whip out exactly what she needs to go into his mind from her pocket is a great example.
Seven and Raffi both seem like an afterthought so far, neither of them have had anything particularly interesting to contribute (The less said about just deciding to steal a police car the better).

It's a hot mess. Luckily I'm mostly enjoying it, but it's so strawberry floating dumb.

The thing that's really annoying me about the plot, actually, is that Picard has a brother and he's just not mentioned at any time.

Well the Borg Queen doesn't need endorphins to assimilate people exactly, what Seven points out is that the Queen is trying to generate endorphins because the Borg nanoprobes in her body can use them to multiply more quickly. This Queen is basically having to start utterly from scratch, from just a few nanoprobes she was able to inject into Jurati and with zero support from any kind of collective along with a relatively low technological base surrounding her. Ontop of that the kind of implants that a Queen would require are likely to be significantly more complex than the average drone and so require significantly more nanoprobes to form. She can't just go around assimilating people because, at the moment, she presumably lacks the implants necessary to actually form and control a collective.

Picard's brother and nephew burned to death on Earth in Generations (So 30 years prior to the start of Season 2 of Picard), which impacted him really badly to the point that he absolutely does not wish to discuss it with anyone. When the brother was first introduced in TNG it was made pretty clear that they had never gotten along so it's not entirely surprising that Picard's subconscious would exclude the brother from an over-dramatised flashback.

The portrayal of mental health issues in this series is a strawberry floating travesty.

I am at least partially watching Picard to follow along with the RedLetterMedia reviews. I've realised I stopped watching Discovery when they stopped covering it.

You know what can strawberry float off? Youtubes algorithm.

Accidentally clicked on a video talking about Discovery's problems and within seconds it became clear it was from one of those "the wokes killed it" channels.

Now I'm playing whack-a-mole with videos from other banana splits espousing similar shite appearing on my front page.

Say Qapla' again, I dare you.

Honestly, how the hell do you think that Star Trek went woke?
