They don't need to defeat us by conquest just have a cube turn up near earth filled with a bunch of Borg Bakers who'll just offer to make amazing cakes all day and I can't see us lasting long before we all slip into cake induced coma's.

We'd all die happy and they can have the Earth.

I mean on earth and in space people can literally magic up whatever food they want whenever they want. You wouldn't need the borg to make the cakes.

Some things can't be replicated for story reasons, like latinum. If there is some tasty version of latinum that you could put on a cake then there's that. I mean people eat gold leaf on cakes that's tasteless just to show off how rich they are, so it's not that unrealistic to include in the story.

People also still go to restaurants as shown by Sisko's dad being a chef so maybe The Borg cakes are just so gosh darn amazing and beyond anything a mere replicator can make that sends everyone crazy for Borg cake.

CBS and Viacom have announced a merger, which reunifies TV Star Trek, and Movie Star Trek. This means they no longer have to be in separate "timelines", and raises the possibility of Discovery or other upcoming Trek shows like Picard getting movies.

Functionally they were never really separate anyway. The TNG movies were basically referencing Worf being in DS9, then you had Janeway popping up in Nemesis.

Weren't the shows and the movie right both held by the same party at that point?

EDIT: Yes, the split happened in 2005, 3 years after Nemesis. It's why we ended up with the Kelvin-verse.

Riker was the greatest sexual force in the entire Trek universe at the time.
No woman could resist his charms and I'm pretty sure the only reason the Borg invaded was because the Borg Queen wanted him for herself.

He had a beard and could play the trumpet, how could anyone else compete with that.

Even Hobo Riker still looks more than ready to go on a date with any woman he pleases.

I have a challenge to anyone married who posts here. Ask the missus if she'd instantly leave you if given a shot with him and you'll see the Riker effect in action.

I'm glad the rights have been rejoined. The Kelvin-verse was a fine idea but it led to a really messy situation with Discovery where it needed to be 25% different and it just didn't feel right. Star Trek already had such a well written and deep universe, it really didn't need the messy alternative time line scenario and then shows that kind of floated between the universes.

I'd like to see them now make sure Picard is in the real timeline, and put Discovery firmly in the Kelvin-verse. Maybe that's why Picard got delayed.

I highly doubt they'll put Discovery in the Kelvin-verse, and as much as I dislike what Discovery has done with canon I don't think they should. It would work even worse in the Kelvin-verse timeline than it does in the Prime timeline.

At least the end of Season 2 was basically an admission of "Sorry, we strawberry floated up" and essentially an attempt to sweep it under the rug.

My big worry for Discovery is that they think by going into the future they'll be able to do whatever the hell they want, whilst completely forgetting we've already seen plenty of examples of what the Star Trek universe is canonically like fairly close to the point in time they're going to via Enterprise.

My main problem with Discovery was the whole dark tone of the show.
Trek is supposed to be a hopeful look at the future and Discovery was just the same old distopian future that's become all the rage.
It could have worked as a none Trek show but as a Trek show it just doesn't fit.

DS9 had some really epic-ally dark themes but the overall outlook of the show was that hope should triumph and most people are basically good and managed to be a fantastic Trek series where characters who had been forced to do horrible things showed it affected them but I honestly don't get that from Discovery where it feels like however bad the things they do are they just shrug it off and carry on.

Cleaning the holodeck floors has got to be the worst job in Starfleet.

I like to think the computer just beams it into space, leaving a little trail of frozen "fluids" behind every starship

Isn't the official thing that any matter left in the holodeck gets recycled and used by the replicators?

Ricker has pretty much jizzed in the entire crew's food and Picard's Earl gray.
