The Romulans presumably thought it was "safer" to trick the Federation into a reactionary ban on androids rather than passing on the warning and letting them decide given the Federation's (former) principles of curiosity, progress, universal rights, etc.
One could imagine the TNG-era Federation just saying "thanks for the info, but androids are part of our society now, so we'll have to just cross that bridge when we come to it" which presumably wouldn't have been enough for the Romulans.

Once again I thought this was a really good episode. I don't know if I have just no critical thinking or if it was good anymore. Oh well it was awesome to me.

It;s not just the Federation that they worry will be destroyed. It's everyone.

I was very much reminded of Mass Effect - if the Reapers turn up as some sort of ultimate AI gods then it’s basically Trek Effect. Not that I’m complaining, this has been a great series so far.

I thought this was only eight episodes and I was left really cold by what I thought was the end of the series. Really glad there's another ninety minutes of story left

Is it just me or is it really difficult to tell the difference between Romulans and Vulcans in this? In TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT the Romulans had much clearer head ridges making them easier to identify, but in this most of the Romulans either have no ridges, or ones that are barely there at all.

Ah cool, i watched episode 8 last night and wasn't sure if it was the season finale. Glad to hear its not - i'm really enjoying it (i'm not a trekky though i do have fond memories of watching TNG in the late 80's before going to cubs).

So... (episode 9 spoilers)
They're going to make an android Picard, aren't they? Deals with the Irumodic syndrome problem, at least.

Man, if you weren't getting Mass Effect vibes before you sure as hell will be now.

I'm not sure I liked that episode as it's trying to set-up a much more brutal finish than I was hoping for.
I know there's only a single episode left but I was hoping that the story would carry over to next series but it seems like it's going to have a big finish with season 2 being about something else.

Presumably still waiting at Deep Space Twelve for Picard and friends to show up.

Only two more episodes? What happened to the good old days when there were about 20 per season?

Really didn't enjoy that episode. Hopefully the AI will turn up and kill everyone and we can just get it over and done with.

Don't be silly, if that looks like it may happen Wesley Crusher will save the day as always
.
The series will end with Wesley looking all smug and about to give a victory speech and Picard doing the famous "Shut up Wesley!" line.
