Unfortunately Patrick Stewart hasn't become a robot and just looks like an idiot running about.

Watched the first episode of this tonight. I thought it was pretty good, but we all got burnt so hard last season I'm struggling to trust!

One thing I will say (and don't spoil it for me if you're further ahead and this is moot) is that I don't like Constitution class ships. They're boring and evoke an era of Star Trek that, if I'm honest, I couldn't give a fish's tit about. It's a nice in-universe explanation that Starfleet has had a retro fad, but I didn't sit through sixteen episodes of them pissing about on some bland AF space freighter to see yet another Constitution refit.

I'm actually enjoying this so far. I love the idea it as the TNG version of The Undiscovered Country which is one of my favourite Star Trek films.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Enjoying it so far. Bit confused seeing Worf use his bat'leth like that to kill rather than knock out.... not very Star Trek.
Loving captain Shaw though  lol

Loved episode 3. Best episode of Trek I've seen since finishing Brave New Worlds (which is miles ahead of Picard).

Am I the only one who wants to know more of Shaw's backstory?

He survived the end of the world in the 12 Monkeys incident.
That's a lesser known part of Trek cannon.

Give Terry Matalas a new TNG-era show to helm after this as he's showing up the first two seasons (Especially the 2nd) for the trash they are.

I'm genuinely enjoying this so far.

Clocked that the changelings were back when Jack smacked that one in the jaw and to then have it confirmed later on was just fantastic. :datass:
Worfs reference to Odo was just heartbreaking. Sad that we'll never see him again. :(

It immediately makes me wonder if we'll see DS9, or the Gamma quadrant at all. I doubt it, as I think DS9 especially would be well known at this point. They wouldn't hide that and it would be all over the trailers. But damn would it be good to get back there. Even a flying visit to the promenade, or Quarks.

I will say that I'm not 100% convinced that all the main characters we've seen are who they claim to be. Riker especially has been niggling me from the start and with the Changeling reveal I'm even more suspicious now.

I think it's obvious that the other thing stolen from the Daystrom Institute was Lore and probably the memory unit containing Moriarty as well. Looking forward to seeing them again.

Not entirely sure where they show is going, but I'm interested to see.
I must say that I'm enjoying the Jack/Picard/Crusher dynamic more than I thought I would. I wasn't expecting to be interested in another "He's your son/you" storyline, but so far so good.

If we don't see an Enterprise by the end of this season I will be very surprised.

I think they may end up going for 3 whole seasons without a single critical Holodeck malfunction.

Give Moriarty a chance!

This continues to be so strawberry floating frustrating. There's some really good bits, but then there's absolute clunkers. There's some really well made bits, and then there's terrible choices. You still have to completely ignore it's "Star Trek" though - it's still leagues ahead of S1 and S2 though, but I'm still not sure it's close to good.

I liked the flashback. I like the framing of every shot. It's Picard putting on a show - it's almost theatrical in it's lay out, and JLP is laying the ham on thick. It's Patrick Stewart playing a character who is acting the part and it shows. It's really well done. The audience cheers, and then Picard eats alone. It's a lonely old man who likes the attention - not for ego or vanity, but just because it's probably the only attention he gets.

Frakes also continues to knock it out of the park.

But then there's dumb. Just some examples

The holodeck power source has plot armor. The crew are in desperate dire straights, but loads of them can listen to Picard. Shaw is...wounded? But well enough to

changeling hunt and engineer stuff (does anyone know about what a retrofit is? Because they seem to change what it means each time)... but not to be in charge of his ship? The bit where he's teaching Seven Changlings for Dummies is clunky exposition even for this show. (And now every changling brings their own bucket on secret inflitration missions :D) His entire character for 3 episodes has been, whilst a dick, concerned about his crew. So his benching and then holodecking feels weird.

Was Vadic's hand a changling, or a changing communication device?

Do we think one of the characters is going to be a secret "changeling all along" at some point. It feels just like this show that a TNG character will be at some point as a "shocking" reveal.

It still remains slow. 4 episodes in and we could have covered all of this in one easy episode. Filling and taking your time isn't bad, if you have some good stuff to fill it out with

Then again by 4 episodes into season 1 and season 2 we off the rails and mid-dumpster fire so there's that.

Odo has the same actor continuity freedom as Doctor Who so we could easily see him back but just not in the Rene Auberjonois guise. When he first encountered his people he was amazed at their powers so it's entirely conceivable he's learnt how to shapeshift properly.

S3E4

Fantastic episode - it's taken them twenty tries but they finally managed it :slol:

Yes we've seen "surf the wave out of the anomaly and charge the batteries too" before but this was a cool iteration of it, along with the changeling saboteur tension, ballsy life support gambit and Galaxy Quest finale. Got a lot of emotional beats too with JLP/Jack, Shaw on Wolf-359 and Riker struggling with his son/Troi.

I do think that Picard has no reason to feel guilty about the earlier meeting with Jack because you don't just go to another geezer's manor and start giving it large about his family. Bruv's supposed to be a Londoner innit, he knows that's bang out of order...

The Neo-Constitution has steadily grown on me over the course of the series (the cut-outs towards the back of the saucer give it a more interesting shape and I suppose it is a white ship with blue engines which is what I wanted all along  ). I still think it's nostalgia from the wrong era though and a couple of things do grate slightly - I want dustbuster phasers back instead of the generic space gun which is quite TOS, and I really don't remember that all-hands naval whistle ever being used in the TNG era (might be remembering wrong).

I think it really benefitted from mostly staying on the ship (flashbacks aside) and not jumping to Worf and Raffi's story. It was like an actual episode of TNG with actual space jellyfish

I'm loving this so far, if it maintains this level of quality it could be a great send-off for Picard for me.

It's shocking how much better season 3 is than the first two, surprised how much I'm enjoying it. And Shaw's the best.

I really enjoyed that. It feels like a simple thing but they setup stuff in the previous episodes and they paid it off. Like in the last seasons the set stuff up and just ignored it. The whole evil Trek dimension thing, it just felt it was slapped in because it was cool but there wasn't really a point to it. There was a whole weird thing with a badge being lost that wasn't paid off, but here it felt that we got stuff paid off.

I never finished season one. Is this good enough to simply skip season two and jump in here?

You don’t seem to need to know anything from seasons 1&2 so far

Not even that Picard’s dead

Episode 4 was brilliant! Proper Star Trek for a change. I was about to yell at the TV for them having the Holodeck on and they even put in an explanation for it. Well done.

Lord knows how much energy the Red Alert bulbs use on the Titan though.
