I flip back and forth over whether weekly releases or the binge friendly "all in one" approach is best. I think it depends a lot on the show, some things benefit from the staggered release which allows people to digest each episode and for hype to build across a season, other things will do well out of the binge approach.

I was reading something the other day that was trying to say that The Witcher suffered from a lack of online interest and hype because Netflix dropped it all at once whereas something like The Mandolorian had a continued buzz over a longer period. Not convinced it was accurate mind as I saw strawberry float loads of memes and online commentary about The Witcher over quite a period and Netflix seem to think it did well enough.

I'm just happy to have Star Trek back.

Really enjoyed it. Bizarre to see right wing anti-SJW Star Trek fans moaning that it's too political. Star Trek has always been really political. I'm amazed that Trumpists suddenly think Star Trek has turned on them, Star Trek has never pushed values close to the Republican position!

That was a great first episode, with some fantastic callbacks to TNG.

I enjoyed that more than I was expecting after some of the late info coming out.

Definitely off to a better start than Discovery.

If you compare that episode to Encounter at Farpoint, it's a massive gulf in quality. I'm actually quite confident about this series.

Well I thought that was good - especially given some of the late info coming out.

It's not "slow" as some of the reviews have said, scenes breath and people talk normally. It's people having conversations (with the camera staying still)

They could still muck it up, and I don't like the isolationish federation teased - but it's showing good potential with something to say

Loved Picard being an old man. They're not trying to unbelievably making him an action hero. He's winded by a flight of stairs and nearly out of commission after 2. But not as a "joke" just realistically

I’ve been told to avoid spoilers on pain of death but I watched that intro.

It’s very melancholy isn’t it? If they go through the full planned arc, I very much believe that Picard won’t make it out alive. :(

Well there's season 2 and it's called Picard.

Fancy a bet?

Pfft. Not with you. There's no fun betting against a man who's always wrong. Winning means nothing.

I'm also kind of confused by

The attack on Mars by a bunch of Androids/"Synthetics", like that just seems to have come out of nowhere? I assume there's a little bit more info in the Short Trek (that nowhere but the US has gotten because reasons) but it seems like there's a lot more backstory needed there than what you can fit into a short Trek timeslot.
All we got was "Oh yeah they were built by the Daystrom Institute on Earth", then nothing on why they suddenly decided to go rogue, how they were able to take down the entire Mars defence grid with nobody knowing or where they got the ships capable of not only destroying the Utopia Planitia Shipyards but basically rendering the entirety of Mars uninhabitable and basically setting the entire planet on fire.

“If they go through the full planned arc” being the key part of that post - the show’s producers have stated that they want it to run for three seasons, which I thought was common knowledge. So yes, I will take the bet that he’ll die at the end of the three seasons.

I'm gonna go ahead and blame Lore.

I could easily see Maddox getting hold of Lore and re-.assembling him after Data was killed

Or simply making a similar mistake to the one Noonien Soong made when creating Lore, only with the resources to make that mistake hundreds of times
