Epic Games Store sale. Good discounts apparently, on some unreleased games too.

Phoenix Point for £21 is very tempting.

Its not got an actual release date yet though (afiak).

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy on sale for £7.13 https://store.steampowered.com/sub/35983/

Imagine not buying that if you don't own them already.

I got Shakedown Hawaii and the new john wick game for under a fiver each. Sure, epic are a money-throwing bulldozer but they can sure put on a sale. I've seen people react to epic with "muh steam" and "muh based gaben" etc. but that ship sailed years ago - valve are asleep at the wheel and steam has become mostly a pit. Better the devil with less shovelware and deeper discounts i guess.

I would buy John Wick, and Hades if they were on any other store front for that price. I just dont feel comfortable using the Epic store.

However on the Steam front, I tried the Steam Link on iOS, just to see how Slay the Spire was on my phone. Awesome is the answer. Will try some more stuff this weekend

So apparently various games have been pulling out of the Epic store sale, sounds like they really hadn't planned this out properly at all. :dread:

Borderlands 3 has been removed from sale entirety on the EGS and Randy Pitchforf has deleted all his tweets about it being on sale.

It now just says "coming soon" rather than having a price and letting you purchase.

So the Gen 3 have been announced. @Winckle what's your take on them?

I don't really understand a lot of it, I've seen a take on SomethingAwful saying that the 3800 isn't worth it, and you should pick either the 3700 or 3900 depending on your budget.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I know they won't be using this exact chip as it's way over budget but I'm assuming the next gen consoles are using this design as a baseline?

Even if it's a massively scaled back version it should be a huge upgrade of the CPU's in the current gen but how much difference does a good cpu make when building a PC these days?
I'm expecting the largest increase in performance from next gen to be the CPU so other than better physics (which is a bit nebulous to be honest) and AI (which again is a bit woolly) what should I expect?

Zen 2 looks quite promising. Glad I held off on the upgrade and if these CPUs perform well in independent benchmarks and reviews I'll likely go back to AMD for the first time since the early 00's.

The gooseberry fool that is happening with Intel and the vulnerabilities I may upgrade sooner rather than later.

How much do you guys normally budget for a CPU?
My old budget for an entire PC was £650 as I felt that was enough to get me something not terrible but obviously nowhere near high end.

I've always tended to stick to a maximum of £900 when I buy a new PC, I obviously pay a little bit more by buying a pre-build but I can't feasibly build my own for physical reasons.

My current one is from Overclockers and despite a couple of issues with USB drivers when I first got it and a broken power switch I've been quite happy with it.

That would depend on what I am buying for. If it's just a gaming machine that I plan on having for some time I may go as high as £250.

 Not a chance, I am an impulse buyer of the worst kind when it comes to pc equipment. I am tempted by the AMD 3900 but the 16 core that is round the corner is calling my name. The only reason I didn't get the Threadripper is single thread performance and DDR4 memory was stupid expensive for a long time.

I have an illness.

Just spent £350 on an RTX 2060 and another £170 on an I7 7700 (didn't fancy going newer due to my MB not taking anything newer than the 7700s and I'm not up for trying to change to a newer MB just yet)

Sold my GTX 1060 6GB for £125 and my I5 6600 for £100 so wasn't that bad. Got a Cooler Master Hyper 212X arriving tomorrow too to replace the Intel stock cooler I've used the past 3 years.

So looks like AMD have just curbstomped Intel in the CPU market in both multi and single thread performance as of Ryzen 3000. Nice to see serious competition and innovation after so many years of pretty stagnant technology. AMD will be the standard for gaming PCs for the next few years or so at least.

Ouch. I'd never even heard of this game before, but the concept sounded pretty cool. Did anyone ever play Sim Ant? Was that any good?
