He's removed the fans that attach to the GPU heatsink and then housed the GPU next to Noctuas fans attached to the bottom of the case venting outwards. So presume he's attach the two Noctuas fans in parallel to the 12V connection on the GPU that the stock fan was removed from.

On mobile it's not obvious but if you click on the photo at the top of the build log in the link there are additional photos and it's in there.

Doesn't help that my photos are crap but that is exactly what I have done yes. The full card is too wide for my case. The setup doesn't match the results people have achieved with an Accelero III or with an alternate stock heatsink, like on the ASUS Strix but I'm still looking at ways to improve the performance.

Damn, AMD announcing about their new GPU's at CES. 7nm and 16gb of onboard memory. This looks like it's the AMD version of a Titan.

They may have wanted to choose something other than DMC 5 in 4k with the fraps fps counter in the top left.

So not a Titan.

Hey guys, is there any reason to not go for an i7 9700K over the i7 8700K when they’re currently around the same price?

The 8700 has more threads, and the 9700 doesn't have Hyperthreading, but the 9700 has 8 cores as opposed to the 8700's 6 cores which makes up for the lack of Hyperthreading.
The 8700 does have a slightly higher base clock speed (3.7GHz as opposed to the 9700's 3.6GHz), but the 9700 has a faster Turbo speed (4.9GHz as opposed to the 8700s 4.7GHz).

Power usage is the same on both, and cache sizes are the same on both as well.
Both use the same socket so no worries about needing to spend additional on a motherboard.

So yeah, not really any reason to take an 8700 over a 9700 if you can get them for about the same price.

The 8700K will perform slightly better in some multi-threaded tasks but slightly worse for games. The 9700K also gets pretty good temperatures though, what with the integrated heat spreader being soldered. I was going to suggest the 8086K for an extra £20, but maybe not worth the faff of taking the heat spreader off to get the best out of it. If the price is the same, as Laga says, no reason not to get the 9700K really.

Cool, thanks. I figured as much, which is why I was a bit surprised they were around the same price in most places. I'll be using it for games and photo editing, and it looks like the 9700K is marginally better for both but with better overclocking capabilities.

Looks like this month is new computer month! :toot:

Owners of any 11 Bit Studios games (This War of Mine, Anomaly, etc.) on Steam should find a voucher for 50% off Frostpunk in their inventory, making it £12.49.

I enjoyed frostpunk, but haven't felt any need to go through any of the other scenarios after completing the main one.

Edit: but I'd say it's worth it at that price.

FF VII Remako HD mod has been released. Works with all PC versions of the game and implements fully upscaled HD background art.

That ESGRAN scaling tech really is amazing, paints a very exciting future for texture mods going forward. There's already a superb one for Max Payne:

It's a game changer. Especially if you like texture mods that stick to the feel and theme of the original title.

Those FFVII images are like how I remember the game originally looking. Stupid strawberry floating memory.

Definitely! I'm excited on it for N64 games, as the HD packs out there are usually too far removed from the originals for my liking

Nah that's fair, a smaller TV with the scanline appearance would've been where that art shone. On a large high res digital display it's always going to be rough, hell I believe that ESGRAN filter partly works by analysing the source at its original res to figure out exactly what the pixel art was going for

Does this mean that we don't need to use scanlines anymore to cover up how not as good old games are on new TVs?

I like scanlines, but if they are pretty pointless with that pack, then, why bother, you know?

If it makes you feel any better most of your memories are just made up or rough impressions of what actually happened.
