Stalker was the last of the true old-school PC games. Games like it just don't exist anymore. Not profitable enough for big studios, and too expensive to make for indies.

I really need to get round to playing Stalker. I've had CoP and SoC in my Steam library for years.

I recently dug out Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, and am playing through the campaign, I feel like I should be able to zoom out further, but nope that's it. 
It's very fun, but if you asked me if I loved it I'd probably say no, but when I think about it I've actually played the campaign about 4 times with different races. It's weird that it didn't leave more of an impression on me.

Dark Crusade tried to do too much and had a campaign that was far too long with not enough variety. The original Dawn of War was a fun story-drive RTS that didn't outstay its welcome, but Dark Crusade just becomes the same thing over and over and over again within about an hour of starting.
Dawn of War 2, whilst removing the base building elements, was an improvement in almost every way.
I have Dawn of War 3 and really need to get onto playing it really.

Dawn of War 2 was literally a CoH clone and was for me a lot worse than the original and CoH

I should play Dark Crusade. Loved the vanilla game, it still plays well. Tried playing that Soulstorm campaign and I hated the units. Didn't get to far into it.

I only played Soulstorm. The world map campaign was cool but the game was a bit unbalanced as the early game was very slow going until you conquered a few territories but once you had most of the map under control the second half of the campaign was a relative cakewalk as you started each battle in a much stronger position. Probably more logical than the difficulty increasing but it's not what you are conditioned to expect in a game.

+1 for playing DoW2.
Tried to go back to the original's but I just couldn't click with it. Loved the Squad management tactics in 2 though. Especially as you powered up your units over the course of the game. Never did finish it, but might have to re-install it I think.

I loved the plot in DoW 2 personally, and the expansions.

Get mods. I reinstalled DC with the Apocalypse mod (adds extra factions and titan weapons) and an additional and must have extra for it was the ability to zone right out.

Why would you program NPC's? Because playing with real people is awful, and it breaks immersion when someone tells you they did your mom after you just killed them.
This just sounds awful. Like really truly terrible.
