Every gaming laptop I've ever seen has been gargantuan and severely underpowered for the price. You can get a decent mini-PC and a notebook for the same price, with close to the same specs and far more versatile.

On the topic of gaming on less cumbersome devices - has anyone else had a go on the beta for GeForce Now? I've been quite impressed with the results you can get from it, I was playing Assassins Creed origins at 1080p60 on my 5 year old laptop last night and the experience was almost flawless.

You need a decent enough connection (minimum of 25Mbps) and there is still some discernible lag - but I'd say it's definitely at a level where most would be comfortable with it.

If you know you're going to be playing games in places with a solid internet connection I would seriously consider getting a lower specced laptop and trying something like this out.

Karl wrote:@BAKA: Have you considered building a Mini ITX PC? The motherboard form factor is a little over 6 inches square, and the cases are usually light and slim. You end up with a 'real' PC but it won't take up much room at all. If you're just looking at one mid-range GPU then you shouldn't have any trouble fitting it onto the board and getting a case with enough room for it (but do your research).

I suggest this because it will be much cheaper and probably more reliable than that £2000 laptop.

I love my mini ITX PC, housed in a Fractal Node case.

There are far smaller cases than that though, I just like its sleek, minimalist design.

Orwell is free on the Humble Store for the next day and a bit.

It's a pretty interesting cyber detective adventure game. There aren't really any opportunities to mess up until the very end, beyond getting a slightly less than perfect outcome, so it's not much of a challenge, but it's a half decent story, and a good exploration of social media snooping as surveillance, in a layout that's pretty immersive.

For anyone who didn't know (like myself) you can put your CD keys for STALKER into gog, and get a digital, drm free version. It also works for a few other games...

https://www.gog.com/reclaim

I just did it to get Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat. :toot:

Anyone recommend a decent PSU 700-800w, looks like mine is blown (No voltages on any rails after doing the pin out trick) cost isn't to much of an issue.

Just ordered the Corsair RM750 seems to get decent reviews and can be had for £90 so all good although it is a Corsair PSU that's looks to have blown but it is at least 6 years old.
Cheers.

TBH the old PSU had come from a friend who took it out of a newish PC then I've had it for around 5-6 years and it was a lower end 620w Corsair model.
It's been running a GTX 680 and a i7 2600k overclocked and more recently 32GB of ram with a lot of USB and even esata connections so not really surprised that maybe one of the rails has probably gone. Anyway next upgrade is a GPU.
Tbh Corsair stuff generally gets well reviewed.

Is it a roguelike or a battle royale? That's all I play these days.

Aren't battle royales just multiplayer roguelikes?

I refuse to play any indie game with sprite art of any kind. It might seem harsh but it's the only way to cut out the garbage.
