I like the M.2 form factor a lot too. If you're not concerned about getting better-than-SATA IO speed, you could possibly save a bit of money by going for a SATA/M.2 SSD rather than an NVMe/M.2 SSD. It plugs into the same M.2 port, but it's a bit cheaper because it's internally a SATA drive, not a new architecture NVMe drive.

I think I would personally go NVMe/M.2 because it's not that much more expensive in the grand scheme of things (IMO), but it's up to you.

Yeah I agree Karl, I'll go for the NVMe.

I'm not buying until the new year, this is just me figuring out how much I'll need to have to pay for it. I don't suppose there's any imminent hardware releases I should know about?

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

AMD are due their new CPU in the new year aren't they? That might effect the price of your i5, but who knows.

I vaguely remember seeing that SSD prices are predicted to fall in 2019.

Gamers Nexus have just put up a review of the 9600K if you are interested.

I'd be happy with a drop in SSD's all right. Sticking one in my TV PC would definitely remove a lot of the interminable boot times I have with it.

Thanks andre, I'll check that out.

I've updated the build, Falsey recommended a different more modern cooler, and I've changed the RAM based on Meep's info about RAM speeds.

I posted this a few pages back but haven't seen anything further in terms of falling prices since:

Can someone explain these Game Ready Drivers? From the descriptions it sounds like they're more for specific game releases. Do I actually need to keep installing these everytime even if I don't plan to play the latest game they mention (currently Darksiders 3). Or do they do other helpful things as well?

No harm in updating and if there is a problem you can always uninstall (DDU) and just download the previous Driver.

I need a new GPU from a quick search the GTX 1080 and RTX 1070 seem similar price but the RTX is a little more powerful (I have no interest in the ray tracing bollocks)

Any thoughts?

Edit: Never mind found the RTX2070 cheaper than a 1080, i bought it and it arrives tomorrow to boot :)

I can't see release notes listed on that NVIDIA Experience app, installed it anyway. I probably wouldn't have a clue what half of it meant anyway.

Currently watching someone stream Mutant Year Zero, and I've completely fallen for it. Mario+Rabbids with a pulp aesthetic. I remember the reveal, but for some reason I had no idea it was an SRPG. Out in a few days and only £30.

I remember Nvidia used to put a list of games that would get a certain % of improvements with the new Drivers depending on the GPU model but can't remember when they stopped doing that with the Driver updates.

Worse, £12 from Parcelforce. NCase M1 for £200 all in. Better be worth it. :slol:

I have heard of that thing. I am not brave enough to attempt anything that small because at those dimensions you have to really worry about every milimeter of clearance for hardware.

Yeah I was initially going for something a bit bigger, a BitFenix Phenom but even that had it's own downsides. The NZXT H200 was another option.

I'm fairly confident everything I've got will fit. The GPU is the biggest uncertainty. A compatibility spreadsheet said only the PCB will fit and as the PCB is a custom one, I'm not sure if an Accelero III heatsink would mount to it. But I looked at the measurements and compared a few photos and I reckoned the manufacturer's heatsink would fit and I found a single build out there that looked like it confirmed it.

I'm going to have to completely breakdown the card though to get the fan shroud off. I'm hoping I can remove some of the LED stuff off the shroud to reduce the height but I've got a feeling that won't be enough.

So X4: Foundations is out...

Did anyone get it? Any first impressions?

The trailer seems a bit underwhelming...

That case looks similar in size to the Fractal Node (which I have), probably slightly taller but also looks a bit shorter in depth.
