Nah can't see a thing unfortunatly as it's hidden by the Cooler and GPU. Oh well least gives me time to Download everything all over again!

I used coffee filters when I did mine as apparently they don't leave any fibres. I got a bit of practice because when I fitted my monstrously large Hyper 212 Evo I did it wrong so it clashed with the fan on the side panel. I had to take it off and reseat it rotated 90 degrees, but my spatial awareness strawberry floated up and I installed it wrong AGAIN, so despite only ever building one PC I've done three applications of thermal paste and two cleandowns. Has put me right off doing anything with thermal paste unless absolutely necessary!

I think I used unscented hand gel as my alcohol but it was a while ago.

Noctua do proper wipes, but expensive. I was waiting for them to arrive before fitting the cooler. They were late and I wanted to get cracking and so I just used the kitchen roll, cotton bud and hand sanitiser combo… it’s done a decent job.

Where are you Albear? If local you can have some noctua wipes. I’m Bristol.

ah, almost but not Quite! Yeovil! Thanks for the offer though.

Got some wipes arriving tomorrow so hopefully can have a proper crack at it tomorrow.

General advice is to use proper cleaning alcohol and appropriate wipes as anything else can leave residue/fibres.

That said I’ve got away with cleaning paste with all kinds of gooseberry fool in the past so it’s hard to know how much to worry about it!

Just checked Fan Curve in BIOS, and all looks ok (Set to default/Auto)

CPU Temp in BIOS was 63C @ 1268 RPM :dread:

That cpu temp is far too high, either the cpu fan isn't working or as others have said isn't seated correctly/not conducting heat through the thermal paste.

For comparison, my cpu (i7 9700K) is currently 38C @ 1263 RPM.

Was that not while playing a game?

No. In the bios doing best part of nothing.

Good luck albear. Let us know what you see what you pop the fans off and that cooler. I am hopeful you see a messy paste job and maybe it’s just moved off the chip. Should see a vast improvement after that.

I've only had a quick browse, so sorry if it's been mentioned but only 3 things come to my mind on this issue due to it being intermittent

- something physical has come loose, like a connector to the motherboard, that means occasionally there's a gap between the chip and plate - like it can wiggle a bit

- the fan is occasionally stopping spinning, maybe something is causing friction? Could even be a blade on the outer casing?

- potential crypo mining trogan that runs intermittently?

Hopefully it is just the paste, but the fact it's intermittent - rather than grows steadily then sustains - would make me lean away from that normally.

Thanks all. Hopefully today will get to the bottom of it once the new paste/Wipes arrives!

I did wonder the same, that's why I wiped the machine and stuck a new Win10 build on it. Doesn't seem to have made a difference but It needed a clean down in anycase so at least it's a job now done.

When looking at the Temp readings in core temp, the Frequency/Voltage and Power W is constantly changing. Is that normal behaviour? Wasn't sure if that is just some Intel boost thing going on.

Weird looking at all these discussion then seeing my CPU hit 80C at high loads lol (it's currently 55C at 993 RPM on the CPU fan)

I've never seen my 5600x go over 65C with my Noctua cooler.

I’ve got a 3600x and it ramps up, I never felt comfortable with it with the stock wraith. Zilnad got the RGB which is better. I swapped my wraith for a noctua 12s and with good flow in games it’s 54 and gets up to 60+ with high utilisation like DLSS and so on.

The amd balanced power plan helps. But those boosts on amd generate the heat. It’s why many users ‘undervolt’ but that has its own issues with fixed voltage might hurt the chip.

Yeah I get stressed when I see my CPU in the mid 60s!

Mine seems to have hit 60C max even in this weather playing games. Thank strawberry float for a 360 AIO.

Once Albear does the new paste ect he should run Arma 3 and see how long it takes to lock up considering how quick it did it the last time.

I don't use the Wraith either, I bought a bracket and fixed my old CoolerMaster Hyper 212 to it.

Honestly, if the manufacturing guys say the temps are fine I'm not worried. The highest I've ever seen it go is 80 during RDR2 and that's a good way off the 95 they deem acceptable. It's higher than most CPU temps, but it's apparently made that way.

Done a little bit of testing whilst I wait for my Paste to arrive

I thought the Spikes were random, but they actually correlate for when I do anything (opening Chrome etc)

Peak spike was 89c! :dread:

Wondering if it's worth updating and resetting my BIOS before I replace the Heatsink. Never like to tinker in there so not sure it will do any good.
