That spec is ridiculous, dread to think how much it costs.

:shifty:

Yeah it's a bit of a big initial spend.... but when I use it so much on a daily basis and if I get as long out of it as my previous PC then realistically the spend per year isn't that much.

This is after I reduced some bits too after intially going i9-12900k, 3090, 32GB DDR5 :fp:

To be fair, that's not too bad when you are going to use it that much. I spent probably around 3 with my vr setup and it's still going 6 years later.

I'd go for a Ryzen 9 over an i7 but that's just me.

I hate to be there bearer of bad news, but I hope you didn’t spend £3.5k on that. It’s an incredible spec though.

It’s very similar to my rig that and those parts are possibly 2-2.5k worth.

https://www.hotukdeals.com/share-deal/3929026

For £3.5k you could build (with a bit of YouTube) the best parts on the market right now and build it.

3090Ti for £1800. 3080Ti for £1050.

Is a stock not still a killer on buying individual GPUs though, or have things eased up?

3rd party cards have been readily available for a while now, albeit still at high prices:

Bloody hell those prices!

I upgraded to a 2070 Super in late 2019 and it cost me £400, an equivalent "mid/high" tier card now is about £250 to £300 more!

Cards are coming down in price all the time. AIB 3080s are now going for close to their normal price (700-900 range).

The 3080Ti from Nvidia and scan (and the 3090/3090Ti) were in stock for days last time as they are in the £1k bracket with rumours of new GPUs in September being 3090Ti + 40% as the base model.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s an incredible spec. I am just tight. If I had that kind of money, I’d be wanting the best I can get and not paying over the odds. Loads of deals around on other suppliers offering a modest mark up.

Yeah, they are taking the piss with the price ratcheting. They under priced the 3080 at £650 and people went nuts for it, then they scalped with the 3080Ti (and 3090Ti) at big jumps in price for marginal performance.

Next round, I think we’ll see one or 2 lower cards in the £500-£700 range but the best bang for buck card will be £1k and I reckon they’ll have a few more on top of that…

Hopefully they have a 3060Ti (E.g. 4060Ti) equivalent that is say the same performance as a 3080 but for £400. That would be great.

They have tested the market with the 3080Ti and 3090Ti and the best cards will be £1k to £1500 again..

My strix 1070 GTX was £450, and that was the high end one ffs.

I'd settle for a 3050 if I could get one at MSRP. Really can't be doing with spending over £300 on a GPU, it's just not worth it for me personally.

I’ve seen 3050 under £300 and 3060s for under £400. I wouldn’t bother with the 3050 personally.

I'm no longer super desperate for a GPU now that my current RX580 has stopped crashing so long as I use 7 month old drivers, but my max I'd even want to spend on a GPU is £300, and that's increasingly looking unachievable, especially for something that isn't heavily compromised. The AMD RX6500 barely outperforms my current card, and has half the VRAM, for instance.

Nvidia clearly don't give much of a gooseberry fool about the XX50 tier either, so I fully expect the 4050 to not appear for a long time after the rest of the 40XX range as well.
