Yep. I resisted. £1k for a graphics card is silly. Hoping the EVGA stuff comes through at some point and they’ll be 3080s for closer to £700.

No, it started with FFXIV, but I've now noticed it whenever I run anything more intensive than cookie clicker. Yakuza Kiwami 2 can't even make it past the menu.

Have you looked to see how easy it is to dismantle and reapply the thermal paste etc? I've never done it myself but if the card is basically useless you've got nothing to lose.

Yeah, agree with this. Loads of vids, should be able to find your card for the specifics of how to take apart. If it’s dead anyway, replace fans and thermal pads/paste.

My random crashes have now gotten worse. I thought they were only with NMS but that has been put to rest as I haven't played it for the last 3 days. I have had 10 crashes in the last week not linked to playing anything. Temps are good, resat all the major components and put new thermal paste on. Tried with a single stick of ram, then the other. New PSU arrived today and it still crashed. Drivers have been reinstalled as well as a fresh windows install. That leaves mobo, cpu or graphics card. Oh what a strawberry floating time to go tits up.

Sadly not, never get above 70C on the highest load that I have tested. GPU temps never get above 85C either. If it is an issue with the mobo that is easily fixed, same with the cpu but if it is crashing due to the GPU...

I do suspect the mobo may be on the way out as re-seating the memory and gpu should have resolved the error, and I suspect one of the slots is starting to fail intermittently.

Replace the mobo? They can be had for pretty cheap these days if only test of it still crashes. I’ve heard mixed reports about swapping mobos and whether it screws up your windows install on attached drives.

If I do that I may as well get a new cpu as I am still on LGA1151. Money really isn't an issue it's just the hassle tbh. I am gonna keep seeing how things turn out over the week and with luck I will find the issue if not I will have to accept that it's upgrade time. :shifty:

Edit: Now I think about it I will continue to try diagnose the cause then just suck it up till the new CPU's are out and just update then. strawberry float it.

Could you test the RAM slots through trial and error? Maybe run on a single stick in slot 1 for a while and see if it stays stable, then 2 etc. If one is clearly damaged then you know you need to run with less RAM or reconfigure the amount to use fewer slots i.e buy more).

If you think the RAM might be to blame then create a bootable MemTest USB and run that against it, should reveal if there are any issues

I have some other memory to try. The more I think of it I am thinking it is likely to be the motherboard but that is probably me trying to justify to myself to get a whole new rig.

Has anyone been reading up on the Intel Alder Lake CPU that is expected to launch November?

I like the idea of having the smaller cores there so the larger cores you are using for gaming ect are not impacted with background tasks. It is also meant to coincide with the launch of DDR5.

I will be watching the reviews with interest although the rumoured price of the (possible name) 12900k is looking a bit steep.

I don’t know much about them. However single core performance looks insane, and blows the best ryzen CPUs away. But, it’s with DDR5 and we don’t know what the new Ryzens will be like. Or even the old ryzens with DDR5, or even if it’s compatible.

Maybe AMD are waiting to see what Intel do and then better it by some %?

So my long and very dull dance with my crashing issue has been (probably) identified. Once I sorted all the BS from HID driver issues my system would stay on long enough for stuff to register my 1080TI is overheating like a mother strawberry floater, bastard was hitting 100C on Deathloop and a few other games which was causing hard freezing (I didn't see this due to the crashing) so I will look at replacing the paste and pads and see if that fixes it.

Ah strawberry float it, I just bought myself a 5800x and new mobo. Next a graphics card. If all fails give up and spend some cash.
