Yep. the 3060Ti FE at £370 is probably the absolute limit of what I would want to pay for a GPU, and there's fat chance of ever getting a hold of one. The last card I bought was an RX580 8GB for £200 back about a year after it launched.

It's just enough for me to run stuff in VR, and most games at decent settings for 1080p, so it's difficult to justify spending 3x as much or more on an upgrade.

£1700 for a graphics card?

I know it's much more powerful but you can get both the XSX and PS5 for £900 and 3 years of GPU and PSNow for a few hundred and have £400 left over for cake for epic cake based gaming sessions.

Maybe I'm just a cheapscate but £1700 for a graphics card is just insanity. I can afford that but I couldn't justify it to myself.

Aye, but considering I already have those things, spending £900 to buy them again would be even more unnecessary.

Remember that guy with 3 PS3's and how happy he was?
Just think how happy you'd be with 4 next gen consoles :toot: .

Personally I can't see myself going much over a 3060 when I upgrade, the money's just mad even without the inflation from scalping etc. That should give me a massive boost from a 1050Ti, fair VR performance and absolutely smash most things at 2500x1080 or whatever my monitor is.

What would you guys class as the price brackets for a gaming PC these days?

For a basic, mid-range and high end?

There is some subjectivity in that. But I would say RTX3070 with a 6 core CPU (3600x) is high end. I think there is a an ultra/top end which is 3080/3090 with 8 core CPU (or more if you need streaming/other non gaming applications).

Mid is probably 3060/3060Ti

Low end: GTX cards, e.g. 1660super or RX580s.

Cost wise. Hard to say in the market. AWD-IT are good.

Low: under £900

Mid; £900-1000

High: £1200-1400
Expired, but hotukdeals is a good site to use:

Ultra: big bracket here: £1500-£2500.

There is an argument for <£500 being low end and then <£900 being mid. So you see the difficulty. You need to spend £900 to get on par with latest consoles.

Well, it's all here and ready to put together. Not sure handling sensitive electronics is the best thing to be doing during a heatwave when my hands are literally drenched with sweat but here we are.

As I'd be starting from scratch for a decent gaming PC that will stay able to play games on recommended for a few years I'd be looking at about £1100 as a minimum then?
I think I'm happy with my pre-order for a Steam Deck then.,

I spent a £1000 16 months ago and it was a fine system. I’ve spent a bit of cash on it since.

£1100 is what I would aim form. Anything lower might be a false economy depending on how many upgrades you do in future.

Resolution is important. If you only plan on 1080p/60hz gaming then lower end systems are fine. It’s only when you start looking at 1440p/144hz and ultra wide/4k does it really need a beefy GPU.

I'll just be happy with the ability to play Total War series games at all and having the ability to take it with me is a bonus.
I'm happy with the consoles for graphics.
All I'm wondering about now is the dock thingy as do I wait and see what the official unit is like or will any decent dock do?

Should be able to connect a Steam Deck to any monitor that uses a USB C input even without a dock.

Everything’s set up now and I’m getting circa 60fps in Cyberpunk 2077 with everything at max and RT on (helped by DLSS in the balanced profile, it’s about 24 fps fully native :slol: ). I suspect almost anything else will run better, but strawberry float me, it looks *insane*.

Has anyone setup their own home network? I'm looking into it and it seems relatively straightforward, getting the cable to various parts of the house aside...

£1400 3090 in there with the 3060Ti.
