Not sure if I should cancel the order and wait a little while longer to see if the supply gets better. I feel like I could continue looking at find a 6800XT or a 3080 for a similar price.

Overclockers have got a 3070 on at the moment for 5k. Interestingly they haven't followed suit with their 6900XT stock which is on for a more normal, if still very high, price.

I have noticed that the supply of AMD GPU's seems to be a lot quicker looking at part alert and other locals.

Yeah I've seen a decent amount of 6700XT and 6900XT cards when looking around. Seems the AMD cards are not quite as popular, though I feel like I've been lucky to find a 6800.

If I had any confidence in being able to pick up a 3080 or a 6800XT in the next 3-6 months for a decent price, I'd probably return this 6800. I've been scouring round and one place has over 800 3080s on backorder with only 25-30 cards coming in per week. Even if I thought 'sod it' and took the hit to purchase say, a 6900XT, the performance uplift at 1440p is only 20-30% compared to a >60% price increase.

It's not the ideal card for my setup or future plans but it's probably the most solid option I'll get for now. I'm not sure that I want to go through taking the fan shroud off the GPU to make it fit in the case, no doubt I'd have to completely take the cooler off to remove the fan headers judging from my previous experience with AORUS cards. I really like the look of the NR200P so I think it might be time to put the NCase M1 to one side.

It’s an absolute shambles. Gamersnexus had a whinge that Nvidia upping the MSRP had an effect on resale prices and were pretty punchy against NVidia. I think this proves it.

If you have an existing and decent card, just stick with that rather than pay these prices.

Current prices for all these cards are making the 3090FE seem like an absolute bargain.

Right up until you find out there is a shortage of those and are being gouged to £2100 - 3000.

It's going to be a good while before we get any kind of normality in prices I think.

Really glad I picked up my GPU before everything went nuts!

I've seen the 3080FE, which I bought for 750 euros, going for almost 4000 sterling.

That's...absolutely not the sign of a healthy system.

*sells 3090FE* :shifty:

I guess it's only reasonable to buy the FE or Reference direct from Nvidia (Scan) or AMD.

I've been seeing 2-3+ generation old cards going for more than when they launched. I'm just glad the CPU situation isn't quite as bad now, might still be able to build something with my nephews this year.

Started and played about 30 mins of Sable and jeez that's an incredible looking game. I quit out after getting the Navigator unaware there was no save system so I'll probably leave it until the full release.

Also got Bakery Simulator, Lake and Unpacking ready to try.

I played tome Terra Nil which I enjoyed. You have to bring back a wasteland to full greenery by adding machinery run off windmills. quite relaxing and chill. I will give Sable a go.

Aha I remember this now. I thought it looked very similar to something I played on Desura many years back but I might be mistaken. I was thinking that the mechanic of placing power, water/grass being shot in a certain directions was familiar. I played a prototype version of the game maybe 12 months ago where it looked like a nice concept, but one that needed fleshing out a bit.

Finally got my new build working. Replaced my 1080 Ti, R7 2700, and B450-I with a 6800, R5 5600X, and B550-I. The motherboard comes with the ability to flash the BIOS to a new version without installing any hardware (and I definitely did not install everything before doing it :shifty:) but it was a bit temperamental so I had to give it a couple tries before it worked.

It's a nice case to work in, the NR200P. Easy to move the PSU cage around, install the SSDs, and cable manage. Good clearance on the bottom for airflow and mesh panels on all sides. Bit disappointed the back is so open though as it'll let a fair amount of dust in.

I've got the glass side panel on for the moment to see the shit-brown fans LCD side-panel on the GPU but I think I'll swap it out for the mesh side panel as my airflow setup is a bit gooseberry fool and I can imagine the case becoming bit of a hot-box without optimising for airflow. Not sure if it is time to ditch the air cooler and get a liquid cooling system in the system.

Speaking of which:

Seems like a mixed bag - some potentially great performance gains but the hit to image quality is significant compared to DLSS

It's okay but if you don't know what the next objective is going to be, you can completely screw yourself. Once you've played it a few times you can plan ahead your building placement.
