Games look great without it, and often perform really well/better without. But there is just that extra bit of quality, or realism that comes from a game with RT and ‘proper’ lighting.

I’m playing metro exodus now. I didn’t play the original (non enhanced) but I have to say the image quality and lighting effects are absolutely incredible.

I was watching this video about the "infinite" ray tracing used in Exodus enhanced edition, and it's really interesting to see the comparisons between the original and this new version.

Ray tracing is the first thing I turn off. More frames please.

I don't even have a ray tracing capable GPU, so it's all just a pipe dream for me.

This poses an interesting question of how many is enough. I know 60 gets targeted quite a bit, but I like a few more than that as it helps with some occasional drops, but I’m lucky to have a 30 series.

I’m running Metro at 1440p on ultrawide and normally I get 144FPS, but this game runs fine at 80s. Yes it’s a notable step down, but the image quality is worth it. I guess while I am used to 144, as long as the FPS is above 60-70 and consistent, I’ll take the graphical improvement over the extra frames.

I aim for around 100 minimum.

I usually turn RT on in games to have a gander at how it looks but I've yet to play a game where it makes enough difference to bother with long term. I'm definitely in the more frames please category

Is the difference of a higher framerate really noticeable above 60? Don't think I've ever seen a game running at more than 60 and personally think the difference between 30 and 60 is huge, so would really love to see what 90 or 120 looks like.

FPS above 100 can feel incredible in some games! I was amazed what a difference it made to something like Doom Eternal

I was sceptical too before I got a 144Hz monitor but it's definitely noticeable and I can't go back.

You can fell the change in the other way dependant on the game.

Yeah, agreed. 144 is awesome. For fast paced games (Doom is a great example) I’ll take frames over graphics… it’s soooo smooth.

For slower paced games (Metro is quite stealthy and cyberpunk has the combat but is quite story heavy) I can take a lower FPS. Racing games also need high FPS and benefit, so it’ll be interesting to see what Forza Horizon 5 does as I won’t be able to have high FPS and all the bells and whistles.

What I would say, is don’t rush for high refresh monitors. Once you go 144hz in certain games, 60 does feel sluggish.

The jump from 30-60 is massive. I think the jump from 60-120 isn’t quite the jump (in overall experience noting its a big frame jump).

Prices seem to be slowly coming down. Seen the 6800 on for £920, and 6900XT for £1250.

The second hand market has been flooded with GPUs and seen prices fall as Chinese miners look to recoup losses after the Chinese government cracked down on crypto mining, too. They're still well above rrp, but it's an improvement I guess.

I bought the Tokyo Olympics game and just got my first foil Steam card! Normally my cards are worth about 5p so I just flog them for whatever and get on with my life, but this one is priced as starting at £25 :shock:

Noice. I think I got a foil card when cards very first became a thing but they definitely weren't that expensive back then. I didn't even realise you could still get them.

Put it high, if it doesn't sell, lower it gradually.

Rare trading cards. Completely useless but people are willing to pay for them. You can also make shiny badges.
