I've got the graphics card, PSU, ram and optical drives. Is there any point in trying to sell them or am I better off just taking them to the electronics part of the tip when I can go?

I would have thought the hassle of listing and selling them is more effort than it's worth at this point but it never hurts to check just in case anything you've got is inexplicably in high demand!

Anything I cant easily re-use in another build I tend to just take to the recycling centre these days.

I already canabalised the HDD as a photos back up for my current system, but everything else is too old.

I'll probably end up just recycling it.

If you're going any higher than a 2060 you'll be wanting a 3xxx series which are massively overpriced wherever they appear these days. In fact, unless you're absolutely desperate for a new card, I'd honestly just...not. You're going to get dicked over, even on the 2xxx series.

That is not massively helpful. Sorry.

In other news, NVIDIA have now activated adjustable BAR on the 3XXX series cards. No idea what this actually means, but it's leading to some pretty drastic FPS increases in some games

https://www.theverge.com/2021/3/30/2235 ... ilable-now

The downside? It requires a compatible CPU and Motherboard (if you've bought either in the last year you should be covered) and a BIOS update of the latter.

Yeah, seen this. I've been tempted to update the BIOS on my B450 board. But i'm in the 'if it aint broke dont't fix it camp. I was going to wait to do the bios update until when I switched from a Ryzen 3600 to a 5XXX (need to update bios for a B450 and Ryzen 5XXX)

Did all the updates this arvo and everything went smoothly. The how-to on Nvidia's site is pretty foolproof.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/ne ... r2icy7PTtw

Booted up Control, one of the 17 games that currently support the improvements, and saw precisely zero improvement (I'm pretty sure the bottleneck that is my RAM is becoming more and more of an issue)! BUT, I'm futureproofed for a bit, and it never hurts to keep your mobo BIOS updated.

Yeah, so Ryzen 3600 not supported. Also needs a card VBios update. Never seen it done that before.

No, that was new to me too, though I've a founders edition so it's done using a pretty seamless Nvidia tool. Took about 10 seconds

Nice one. Love the FE design. I’ve got an MSI (gaming trio) but in a no rush to go for BAR. It should be painless, might not be. If it doesn’t work with my CPU, may as well do it all as a oner, later.

Yeah, it is only compatible with the Zen 3 and the 10 & 11 series intel CPU's.

If it helps on the GPU front Mafro I'm running a gtx 1070ti and only really play a few games mainly BF5 though and get around 70-80 fps on high settings just to give you an idea of an older card although even they are hard to get hold of.

With the current high prices for hardware and the big new fabrication plants being built could we end up in a situation of over supply in a few years?
Could we be on the cusp of a era of PCs being as cheap as the Gamecube was at the end?

Am I being over optimistic?

Resizable BAR is on and I'm not noticing any difference in the supported games.

I very much doubt that will happen. By the time most of these fabs are online GPU's and CPU's will be on new architectures and I am sure all these companies will factor in the fact that Covid as the main reason so many people have been buying PC's and components as they needed new hardware for working from home, and most people wont look to upgrade like most gamers. I am hoping there is a glut of ex corporate laptops soon though.

Me neither. Like, none at all. Oh well future proofing etc etc

Strange. I wonder how they got it showing 5-10% improvements in some areas?

Properly on, as in, in the control panel?

Yep set it on there as well.

Just sounds a bit gooseberry fool then. No real world value at this point. Makes me super skeptical about all the marketing gumpth.

So the Shadow Man remaster which has gone on Steam today apparently has some levels included which were cut from the original game. They're going to be patching in more bosses soon as well.

Think my CPU liquid cooled thing is playing up - It's recently started rattling. Ring customer service or tackle it myself? Obviously if it's goosed I'll look to get a replacement from the company.
Tried titling the PC in various angles to see if it was just some water bubbles trapped or something, but if anything that just made the rattling worse....
