Some people are being overly optimistic saying the top Navi card will at 3090 performance ( wont believe that till I see reviews) but the cards are all coming with 16Gb onboard ram and.

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-radeon- ... ith-80-cus.

It's probably due to yields for the 3080 chips.

Looking over at the resetEra 3xxx thread, two things happened recently:

1: Seemingly confirmed that 3080 supplies were in the hundreds for entire global regions. That's insane, and makes NVidia's claim it was demand not supply that led to the disastrous launch laughable
2: Supply for the upcoming 3070 launch is much higher, if still not high; probably in the thousands per region.

Think I'm just going to bite the bullet and try and grab a 3070. Not happy with the 6GB of VRAM in there, but it'll be more than fine for 1440p I'm sure (and it means I don't have to get a new PSU). Rumours persist of a 3070Ti with 10gb releasing around the end of the year but I can't wait forever.

I'm still holding out hope that ASUS sub £700 3080 comes back in stock in the next couple of months.

Wait, the 3070 only has 6GB RAM? That's crazy! My 970 from 6 years ago had 4GB and the 2070 Super I'm running now has 8GB.

When you look at what it seems AMD are going to be offering as well it seems even more bizarre!

To be clear, the 3070 is still faster/on par with the 2080Ti in leaked benchmarks. VRAM ain't everything.

But yeah. It's markedly lower than the 16gb every AMD variant is coming with.

The TUF? I've never seen that for less than 800 euros over here, which is a shame as it's deffo the non-FE card I'd go for. If, you know, it actually existed anywhere.

Oh absolutely VRAM isn't everything, but it's still incredibly important and I would be worried about saturating 6GB, particularly at the sort of settings and texture resolutions that are likely to be "standard" going forward.

Obviously it's really hard to gauge these things right now, it may be that 6GB is fine for the foreseeable future

Yeah, Currys have it listed as £689 (although whether they've ever had it in stock is another question), which even then might be higher than the RRP of £650 as I think it was meant to be the same price as the FE.

What's really annoying me at the mo is that I have a G-sync screen. Although I could try and grab a Big Navi, I'd be sacrificing that function of my (very nice) monitor.

Is it exclusively g-sync? No freesync support at all?

So I checked (got the wrong model, posted here, then deleted) and it doesn't look like it

https://www.asus.com/us/ROG-Republic-Of ... FT-PG279Q/

It's an older screen from 2015, back from when G-sync first released (it predates Freesync) so yeah. Looks like it's a no.

EDIT: Confirmed here

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comme ... free_sync/

Best stick to nvida then. Isn't vertical integration great?

It's a damn fine monitor though. Managed to grab it at a bargain basement price too, a good 40% less than retail, as I took a risk on an ex-display model from a dodgy looking seller on ebay.

4 years later, no issues at all.

The 3070 has 8GB RAM but it's GDDR6 not GDDR6X which the 3080 has. I'm going to try for a 3070 this week regardless though.

That makes more sense, anything less that 8GB is insane for a card in that bracket

3070 reviews coming out

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/10/ ... t-for-now/
https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-rtx-3070 ... enchmarks/

Pretty much every single one seems to be saying the same thing: for 1440p gaming this thing is the best value out there. For 24 hours. AMD might very well swoop in and overtake it with Big Navi, so that value proposition is up in the air right now, but it's still an excellent card.

It's proving slightly slower than the out-of-the-box OCed 2080Ti FE though

Sounds like a great buy for the lucky few who can get one. I'll be F5ing away on Thursday.
