There aren't many things I miss from my daily life in the UK but Aldi is one of them.

Get on the level, gramps.

They definitely have stores in France.

Oh believe me I know. They are absolutely not the same.

Aldi (stylised as ALDI) is the common brand of two German family-owned discount supermarket chains with over 10,000 stores in 20 countries, and an estimated combined turnover of more than €50 billion.[3][4] Based in Germany, the chain was founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht in 1946 when they took over their mother's store in Essen. The business was split into two separate groups in 1960, that later became Aldi Nord, headquartered in Essen, and Aldi Süd, headquartered in Mülheim.[5][6] In 1962, they introduced the name Aldi (a syllabic abbreviation for Albrecht Diskont),[7] which is pronounced [ˈaldiː] (About this soundlisten). In Germany, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have been financially and legally separate since 1966, although both divisions' names may appear as if they were a single enterprise with certain store brands or when negotiating with contractor companies. The formal business name is Aldi Einkauf GmbH & Compagnie, oHG.

Uk has the superior Aldi Sud, we get Aldi Nord (which is like a shitter Lidl). My initial excitement at finding an Aldi reasonably close to my place was matched only by my crushing disappointment at realising exactly how terrible that version was.

I got my first gaming pc from Aldi way back in the day. It was a medion and was actually top spec for it's time AND well.priced. I took it straight to a shop on the way home to
Have more ram put in and they said they would be unable to match the spec for the price.

Talking about pre-built PCs for about a grand:

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/1 ... r4-review/

As such, I’d be more than happy recommending the Inferno R4 to anyone looking to upgrade their PC right now, as it’s still a fantastic 1440p gaming desktop that’s built to go the distance. With enough speed to hit a consistent 60fps on max settings at 1080p and high settings at 1440p, this PC should last you for many years to come. You’ll still have to factor in the cost of a monitor and all your peripherals if you don’t already have some, of course, but for £1149, this is an excellent package for those after a new PC. Throw in a three-year warranty (which includes one month collect and return, one year parts and three years labour as standard) and PC Specialist’s Inferno R4 should be top of your list for 1440p pre-builds.

Still though. My rig eats most 1440p games for strawberry floating lunch at Ultra or High settings and I put it together 3 years ago for just over £1k. The extra money you have to fork out on pre-builds is...well not insane but excessive.

I'm not criticising Aldi by any stretch, I'm just saying you don't expect to find things like iPads, PCs, consoles, TVs etc in there like you would in Tesco or Sainsbury's. Even when buying non-food from the middle aisle I expect a certain limit to the quality as reflected by the price.

Considering investing in a new custom rig come 2020, but don't want to build it myself. Got about a grand to spend. Where would you folks recommend I go for my build?

Classic Westwood Blade Runner is (easily) playable again!
ScummVM delivers again. :toot:

I'll be looking at this over the weekend I think.

Excellent. It's one of those games I never got to play but would love to try out.

Now I just need to be able to play my Original TNG a final unity again

Pretty sure Dosbox is the best bet for that one. Sure I had it running not that long ago.

I'll look into it and see what I can find.
