I briefly used one around 15 years ago but never really got used to having to press the buttons with my thumb so ended up going back to a mouse.

A few people at my work use them due to rsi and other ailments with regard to grip strength and arm movement.

My current CPU is a 6 year old i5-4690k with 16GB of DDR3 RAM....
GPU is a 1080ti though so should be fine for at least another year or two.

I've been looking at a similar sort of upgrade for a while now but I'm waiting to see what the next generation of the Intel Core CPUs looks like before jumping into anything...

Currently rocking an i7 9700K and an RTX 2060 which are both far more powerful than I realistically need.

The GPU is a noisy bugger though (its a 'mini' version with a single fan) and I'm half tempted to replace it with a different model (possibly a dual fan 'blower' type, case permitting)

I have the same CPU but paired with a GTX 1060. Tempted to upgrade to whatever the successor to the RX 5700XT ends up being and going down the 1440p, 144Hz route with a new monitor.

Honestly I'm probably just bored from lockdown and looking to do needless upgrades. Didn't even order that mouse in the end since Hatface shunned me in here.

I've had the L9i (I think that's it's name) for the last 5 years, and while it's a single fan it's pretty much silent. Might be worth considering.

Not worth holding off for Zen 3? They won't be compatible with a B450 if you planned on a new CPU down the line.

If you want to get the most out of a Ryzen 3000 processor right now we would absolutely recommend either of the 500-series chipsets. So it stands to reason that should extend to Ryzen 4000, with its continued PCIe 4.0 support, when the Zen 3 processors do finally launch.

I have an 8700k with a 1080TI.

I m looking to upgrade at the end of the year / beginning of next probably to an amd 4000 cpu as well as one of the upcoming nvidia gpu's

I've got an i5-6600k, gtx 1070 and 32gb of ram.

It eats up anything I throw at it, and paired with my gsync monitor, it's still brilliant.

However, for VR, which is hugely demanding, it's starting to struggle with the newer stuff. Half life alyx ran maxed out no problem, but assetto Corsa competitzione kills it when you try to run races with a decent sized grid. Cpu warnings all over the shop, so that must be my bottle neck now. I'll probably wait another couple of years before any upgrade, so I get a nice big jump in performance.

I'm pretty sure my CPU was bottlenecking me in Alyx and I couldn't quite run it maxed out without stutters despite having a 1080ti for the graphics. My older/slower RAM probably isn't helping either.

I think I'll wait on the AMD 4000 series and then upgrade the CPU/RAM/MB combo. GPU is fine for at least another 2 years I think.

Are you sure? I managed fine with my i5-2500k, overclocked admittedly, but still a 4690k shouldn't be giving you serious issues.

Edit: just re-read it and realised you were talking about maxing it out. Nevermind.

B450 support for Zen 3 is definitely good news. I had resigned myself to just upgrading my 2600 to a 3700 when it becomes cheap second hand however if the 4000 series will be compatible with my old board that keeps options open. I suppose I will be at the mercy of MSI as to whether I get the necessary update though.

I.totally forgot about overclocking, I've never looked at it. Should be able to squeeze some performance out.
