I always check them out but I don't think I've bought anything in the Steam sales for years now, doesn't feel like they are as crazy as they used to be.

No doubt there's some good bargains there but back in the day it felt like you could pick up so much more for less - top recent titles going for just a few quid and the like.

My understanding is they got less aggressive when they had to implement consumer friendly practices like easy refunds.

I'm seeing a lot of 50-70% off deals on my wishlist. Lot of decent deals too looking at the homepage. I'm just not that fussed about anything though.

Same here, there's loads of discounted games on my wishlist but my backlog is already far too long without adding to it.

I find most of the time other places do sales cheaper, like Humble Bundle, Green Man Gaming, Fanatical etc.

Yeah other places have really upped their sales game. Combine that with the fact that there are no so many other things practically throwing games at you these day - across Twitch Prime, Game Pass and Epic freebies I've got more stuff than ever - I feel less and less inclined to actually take a punt on Steam sales!

I've forgotten if we have a specific PC upgrade thread, but I'm looking for some opinions. Looking to upgrade for Cyberpunk and I'm thinking of getting the below:

It's in French, but you get the gist.

Does that look like a decent combo? I'll be keeping my GTX1070 for the time being.

Games wot I worked on:
Night Call: Out now!
Rip Them Off: Out now!
Chinatown Detective Agency: 2021!

Looks like a solid move. Couple of points though:

Pretty sure the Ryzen 4000 series CPUs for desktop are coming soon so if Cyberpunk is your target then it might be worth waiting a while to see what those offer closer to release?

Ryzen CPUs scale especially well with faster RAM so there's an argument to go for something higher than the 3200Mhz Corsair you've picked there.

Brill, cheers! I think I'm going to stave off a decision anyway as I think the RTX 3XXXs are hitting soon? Might lower the cost of the 2XXX series so I could go for a complete overhaul.

I think Zen 3 is due next year, there will however be Ryzen 3000XT CPUs coming out in the near future which might be worth waiting for, either to see whether you want to opt for something with increased performance or whether it would bring prices down for non-XT parts.

Frequency on the RAM is important for Ryzen but as you can see from this video, there is a lot more to it. I think the RAM is absolutely fine and it should work with the motherboard as it's on the QVL list.

Agree about the rumours for RTX3000 series, we'll be getting more news about them in the coming months. I myself would wait though, for Nvidia to iron out any problems and also to see if they release a 'Super' series a few months later. But if you want something from the 2000 series, maybe prices will come down. Maybe some used 1080Tis will come onto the market as people have a reason to upgrade them.

I think you could save yourself a decent chunk of cash going with the R5 3600 and a B550 motherboard though. Depends on the use case though as those extra cores will come in use, perhaps especially in Cyberpunk if it is designed up make more use of them.

Decided to buy Yakuza 2 Kiwami and Family Man in the Steam sale, that'll probably be about it though I think.

Man I miss Flash sales :(

I don't miss not having basic consumer rights for digital purchases.

It's not like there was some fundamental technical incompatibility that stopped them from having both, Valve just chose to make it a one or the other situation.

Flash sales were a pain, because you could easily miss them if busy at work, or out doing something in the evening. Dailies were good.

Agreed, flash sales were sometimes cheaper which was amazing, but if you missed them you'd never see that price again :/

Guy unfortunately from the EVE community finds out his cancer has returned and is terminal so the major alliances all join together with some developers in some of their most expensive ships to have one massive battle to commemorate his most likely final birthday. Not gonna lie that's made me tear up a bit.

I'm surprised in some respects. In Planetside a group of players flew a bunch of Liberators over a 'funeral' I guess you could say and bombed the gooseberry fool out of it. Sort of behaviour I'd expect in Eve too.

Wait to get old of a B550 chipset motherboard and Zen 3 processor (Ryzen 4000 series).

Not really sure what AMD is thinking with the XT processors. They have confirmed Ryzen gen 4 is coming this year so there seems every incentive to just wait.
