I didn't see how much that machine was but the things that stuck out were the older motherboard chipset again and the smaller PSU. Also the RGB RAM sticks :dread: But a good build generally I think.

And, personal preference etc but curved monitors are a scam.

Probably better going with this monitor

Might be cheaper elsewhere though

Try one on the motherboard itself.

I might be being 'Whooshed' here but the external 3.0 slot connects to the only 3.0 connector on the motherboard.

Sometimes it makes a difference whether a device connects to a port on the case (through a cable to the 3.0 port on the motherboard), or a port directly on the back of the motherboard. Might not be what's at fault here, but couldn't hurt to try.

Ah I see, yea there's an external 3.0 slot on the case with a cable from the case to the motherboard with a connection to receive it. But there's not a 3.0 direct on the motherboard.

I can build a PC for you, we live in the same city.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

So after a bit of a setback where it kept turning itself off shortly after booting (I still don't know what I did to fix it, I just basically took everything out of the slots and put them back in again but it did the trick), and two hours fannying about with cables and sidequest I've finally got Skyrim running in VR!

Quite proud of my little self for not burning down the house tbh, but the whole thing really was so much easier than I feared.

Shortly after I got my Vive I was having trouble with the display just going blank for no reason. Turns out it was down to Windows power management of the usb slots. It would decide to drop the current after a while, which is obviously no good. Watch out for that.

Cheers, noted. I got about ten minutes in before being overwhelmed with motion sickness so this is definitely a good and sensible investment.

I built my pc specifically for VR and racing games. Including my wheel etc, I probably spent close to £5k on it, and the first few laps I felt really nauseous :dread: "I've made a huge mistake". Not long after though I got used to it and it doesn't affect me at all. The only time I'll get a horrible sick feeling is if I'm stood up and use a smooth motion in an fps or something. My balance goes nuts and i feel awful. Blink/teleport is fine though.

Yea, I think it’s just going to be something I need a bit of time to get used to. The movement system wasn’t anything like I expected and there was a massive disconnect between on screen movement and what my brain was expecting which is why I got the stomach knots. Once I’m used to it, I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Even though I'm unlikely to be building it any time soon I still keep going back to PC Part Picker and tweaking various possible configurations for my next PC build!

I've got a couple of builds stored, one Intel based and the other AMD and I keep flipping between the two in terms of preference. I appreciate the value that the Ryzen chips offer but I keep coming back to the real world results which consistently show that the Intel Core chips still give tangibly better performance.

Very keen to see what the new Zen 3 / Ryzen 4000 chips offer as that may sway things one way or the other!

Welp, my new upgrade begins! Just ordered a motherboard (MSI x570 Tomahawk) which will be the first piece. The other two bits I'm swapping out aren't out yet: an RTX 3080 and a Ryzen 4700. All in all looking at around £1300 for the lot which should mean I won't have to upgrade again for another 4-5 years (current setup lasted 4) and I'll be able to run pretty much anything at well over 60fps on highest settings 1440p for a long time. Keeping my current HDDs/SSD, PSU and my RAM so I might end up grabbing newer versions of those down the line but still.

EDIT: There are rumours of a 4000 series announcement for today actually. Yay!

News on 4000 series would be very helpful, I'm definitely going to hold out until we hear more about the 3600/3700 successors.

Seems that they have confirmed the Zen 3 info on the 8th October and RDNA2 information release will be the 28th October.

Gamepass for PC leaves Beta next week so a price increase is incoming for those that use it.

There's no option of getting in before it leaves beta to lock it in at that price, it's there?

If you sign up now I think it's still £1 for the first month then it'll be £8 thereafter for everyone.

I definitely used my £1 month a while a go. Just wondered if there was a 12 month pass like they do for the Xbox version that you could get at the equivalent of £3.99 a month, but the only site that returns any results for that search is G2A. :dread:
