Still, the launch video didn't mention specific games. Jensen straight up said, and showed charts that said, the 3080 FE was double the performance of the 2080Ti which isn't true.

I'm still getting one, the leap from 1070 to 3080 is going to be insane, but it's not quite as all conquering as NVidia claimed.

I am with you on this. Nvidia should have been upfront from the start. But I am still impressed overall that the card hasn't been a burning bag of shite.

Yup. It's reaffirmed my choice to try and grab one ASAP

I for one am shocked that a company would exaggerate in their marketing pitch.

New GPU in being better than old GPU shocker!

Looks like the 30 series is going to be great for anyone upgrading from anything 10 series and earlier, I'm happy with my 2070 super so will wait for the next generation before considering any further upgrade

I'm still more interested in CPU upgrades at the moment, do we know when the Zen 3 CPUs are coming from AMD yet? I know there was a date of early October for their reveal but has there been anything about when they will actually be available to buy?

Again, true. But exaggerating to the tune of 70%-80% is...a bit much.

Still, it's apparently a banger of a card.

EDIT: Lol at resetEra thinking it's a disaster

Just watched the GamersNexus review and as a 1080 Ti owner, it's an exciting prospect. Massive gains, even as you reduce the resolution.

I think a lot of panic will have subsided amongst 2080/2080 Ti owners though. Only thing that would tempt me into an upgrade is perhaps the price not being ridiculous. Not quite sure a 20-30% performance increase quite cuts it, especially when one would be getting decent performance at 1080/1440p anyway.

Still, it is only the FE card. It'll be interesting to see how partner models perform.

Partner card reviews are tomorrow.

One of the main things I have taken from the reviews I have seen is if you play at 1080p you will need to get a better res monitor to get the best out of the card, and to stop your cpu being a massive bottleneck. Oh and you will have to upgrade your PSU if it's below the recommended wattage as the card will just not work.

I'm not sure this is true. Apparently it won't work with a 600w (although the one review that stated that gave no details on the type of PSU he had) but most seem to think it'll work with a 650

As I've said before, all available power calculators have my eventual setup in the 500-550w area with the 3080. I'll be sticking with my 650 for the moment.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I thought Digital Foundry said there was an 80% improvement in their initial preview video. Unless I'm misremembering and they meant against the 2080?

Yup. In that preview all the games shown were selected by NVidia. In today's video, they're termed "Super Performers" ie the games that really see a huge FPS boost. There are other average performers, and some lower performers (including Death Stranding) whose gains aren't so large. 20-30% is the average across many games.

Oh yeah they were upfront about then being hand picked at the time, just wasn't sure if that 80% claim was against the original 2080 or Ti variant.

Yeah it was the Ti

Also found a few saying the max load, at max stress, tops out at about 610w with an all new, top of the line extreme gaming setup. In case people are worried about PSUs

Don't think I've ever had more than a 500W PSU in any of my systems to date

Only if you want to turn it on, you need 1600W to play solitaire.

850W in mine.

I did find the GN Wattage info on the oc 3800 FE with amazement as it pulled almost 370W in some benchmarks.
