Unless you're a pro gamer there's no way an extra couple of frames per second will make any difference.

Ehhh. If the aim is gaming and browsing the internet I'm not sure on the build. There's some high end parts in there that only offer small performance gains over cheaper parts or you are paying a premium for features you don't really need.

The 3700X is in a really naff position as a gaming CPU. It costs £80-90 more than the R5 3600, for a 3-5% performance increase, and it costs the same as an i7-9700K which performs far better thanks to its higher boost clock. PCIe 4.0 sounds and look great. Do you need to spend an extra £50-60 for a extra read/write speed to play games though? Not really. No need for X570 over B550 either to be honest.

You could change some parts around and use the saved cash on say a 1440p monitor at which point the GPU would be the bottleneck rather than the CPU.

You know what, I never even looked at the 3600 but yeesh you seem to be right. It's a whole £100 cheaper again than the 3700, and does indeed seem to be only marginally slower. All the time I spent looking at the Ryzens and I never considered anything less than a 3700. Yikes.

In short, I've gone from "Imma get a 5700!" to "Imma get a 3700!" to "strawberry float it 3600" in this thread

My only reservation with the 3600 is that it drops the core count down to 6 when the new consoles are going to be offering 8 cores. Gaming is notorious for not scaling well across cores, and comparisons between PC and console architecture are fraught with danger anyway, but I still feel slightly concerned about looking at a PC build with fewer cores than the consoles are offering

I am waiting on the benchmarks before I commit to which way to go. Overall there does seem to be some good chips in the first wave.

Now there are rumours Nvidia are releasing the 20gb 3080 and 16gb 3070 variants in December.

Holy gooseberry fool this hardware cycle has been a cluster strawberry float

They can't even make stock available for the regular 3080, that would be insane. It would not surprise me, they're probably expecting AMD to have a decent announcement and want to steal some attention.

Ordered the final parts for my new build, everything should be here by the end of the week :toot:

Now to start the process of ignoring all tech news, sales and benchmarks for at least 6 months so I don't regret my decisions!

Did you end up getting the 3700 then?

Yeah I went with the 3700. It might not offer much over the 3600 in most current scenarios but I went for a lower core option in my last build and regretted it after a while so as I'd budgeted for it anyway I figured why not!

Had one of those weekends where nothing seems to want to work properly meaning I got about 1 hour of gaming in for about 4 hours of messing about reinstalling stuff.

Has there been any mention of the mobile versions for the Nvidia 3000 cards yet?

Hopefully some of the price drops from the Desktop versions will apply to the mobile versions as well. I need to replace my laptop which has a 970m, but it's difficult to get something one with a 2070 for under £1600-1700 without compromising on the rest of the specs.

lol etc

https://www.techradar.com/news/nvidia-a ... o-best-buy

"...we will be selling our GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 Founders Edition through other partners. In the US, you can shop for Founders Edition at Best Buy – GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3090. In Europe, we continue to review Founders Edition fulfillment options.”

At the moment, then, the only option for those in the US is Best Buy, and European customers are pretty much out of luck it seems – there’s seemingly no way to get a Founders Edition card in Europe right now.

Not just as in "there's no stock" but "literally no-one is selling them"

That's actually annoyed me. It looks good but not THAT good; those specs, especially given the Cyberpunk ones recently released, look unoptimised as strawberry float.

I mean, watch this and compare to Watch Dogs 2. The difference, at least on the surface, really isn't that huge. I mean all that computing power could be going towards AI and the like but, you know, doubtful.

For the next 36 hours the LG 27GL83A is £110 cheaper on Amazon down to £329.99.

2560 x 1440 resolution
144HZ
G-SYNC compatible

Seems pretty good for the price, anyone got one?

EDIT: And it's gone.
