Honestly the pain with installing Microsoft Flight Simulator is the only time I've really had an issue installing or playing a game in the last five years. In fact Game Pass is the only platform that has caused any issues whatsoever.

Things like GEforce Experience have made problems with drivers near non-existent and optimisation of graphics settings pretty straightforward for the most part.

It's not like consoles haven't been getting more and more complex either.

Microsoft need to get away from the bs they do with updating games. Like all the other stores it should have an auto update feature that works. Getting in to a game that then tells you an update is stupid.

Games for Windows Live was particularly bad as a service, and I think some games that ran on it now still require 3rd party patches to work around them trying to log into a service that no longer exists, so at least they've improved, I guess?

I'm guessing they've got the GPU requirements the wrong way round for 1440p and 4K. Regular 2080 for 4K and a 2080 Super for 1440p?!

4K/30 vs 1440p/60

(It's still a stupid chart of course.)

Must be playing modded Fallout: NV like me then. :dread:

The X is pretty popular these days. I still go for a pea sized blob in the middle, perhaps erring on the side of 'too much' (which doesn't matter unless you are using paste that is also a conductor), and I've always got good coverage based on how the CPU looks when I take the cooler off.

Yeah I've read conflicting reports on the value of the X method so will probably stick with the pea/rice blob in the middle approach. I've read far too many things about applying thermal paste in the last couple of days and most conclusions seem to be that as long as you use the right amount the results rarely vary that much anyway!

Going to do the build tonight, this gooseberry fool just got real :datass:

Dammit, getting a red LED for CPU.

Going to take a look and try reinstalling it.

Stupid question probably, but you're making sure you're earned with a wrist or ankle strap aren't you? Static can build up very easily.

Yeah I've got a wrist strap that I borrowed from work.

Took it all apart again and then decided to add things piece by piece and check the warning LEDs as I went this time and now it lives! Didn't really do anything else different the second time but hey it's fine now so that's all good

I'll run some proper load tests to check everything and generally keep an eye on it but after a quick play about last night it seems fine :toot:
