It's been a great monitor for me so far. The 1ms response time is a bit of marketing bullshit though as it requires you to put it on the maximum settings, which results in a tonne of ghosting artifacts. The setting below it, Fast, is a good compromise.

Oh nice, that monitor is on my shortlist so it's good to get some real life feedback on it! :D

Yeah just saw a Youtube video on this. Not really bothered about the 1ms so that's fine. It looks like a massive upgrade to the monitor I use now which I think I took from my old office when we moved building.

So turns out my RDR2 bench going from 43 to 111 FPS wasn't quite accurate. For some reason after I installed the 3080 the game reset all graphics settings to low.

Tried the benchmark again on something approaching my old settings and got 76fps. It's definitely being capped by the processor.

Regarding the Ray Tracing convo last page, it's a bit of a mixed bag.

It's incredibly resource intensive, and it's easy to think it doesn't make much of a difference. But if you play Metro Exodus or Control with it on and then turn it off there is a pretty big difference. Not with just reflections but the overal Lighting quality which is very important for the visuals of the game.

Just started playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla after having played the above 2 games, and the lighting/ambiance feels very limited (appreciate this is running on a dated engine)

Whilst maybe not quite as big a difference, I think it's a bit like the whole 30FPS/60FPS. If you only play at 30FPS then you won't see an issue, but if you play at 60FPS and then move to 30 you really feel it.

But, as said, it's incredibily Resource intensive. Even with DLSS2.0 it can make my 3080 cry. hopefully DLSS3.0 will help matters further.

Again, interesting. Thank you for the info.

Np, I'm basically going through all my games at the mo seeing how much they've improved!

DOOM Eternal used to run around the 100fps mark according to my monitor's inbuilt FPS counter. Said counter maxes out at 165 (the refresh rate, basically) and now DOOM is consistently around the 150-165fps mark! This is at 1440p, Ultra settings.

EDIT: Geforce software FPS counter has DOOM maxxing out at around 250fps but playing at around 195!

Big Navi launch seems to be another paper one. Everywhere sold out immediately, no stock anywhere within minutes of launch. Definitely feel for those F5ing today :(

Also, reviews are out and 6800XT holds its own against the 3080...except when it comes to ray tracing. Multiple reports of it being outright broken in games like Watch Dogs Legion, and when it does work FPS counts are magnitudes less than Ampere and even the 2xxx series.

I'm lucky I got my 3070. The 3070 launch overall did seem better, not sure if that was lack of interest from people deadset on 10GB+ VRAM or there actually was more stock.

I'm sure AMD will quickly fix that with a driver! :simper:

There was an episode someyhing on the Easy Allies Yoitube channel and they showed a review from one of the fans of (I think) Quake 2 and it looks normal and then the guy shoots a big plasma shot into a large room and there it changes to having Ray Tracing on and strawberry float me it looked immense.

It’s still one of the fastest IPS monitors for gaming. At that I have the same monitor.

Also PSA for gsync users. When using gsync in games you’re meant to turn v-sync ON in the nvidia control panel and off within the in game settings. Not sure if everyone knows this or not. It’s not like stated anywhere in the nvidia control panel. When you turn on gsync it defaults to to application controlled. Also if you can push the FPS higher than your monitors refresh rate, e.g above 144fps then it’s a good idea to cap FPS to something like 141 (-3) below max refresh rate number. See guide for more info.

Did we all just buy the same monitor? I have the 27GL850-B and its bloody good. I am tempted to get a second tbh. HDR is gooseberry fool but to be honest I didn't get it for the HDR.

I'm 90% leaning toward that monitor so it's great to hear these positive reports! :toot:

No joke, Quake 2 RTX is still one of the most impressive uses of the tech I've seen. Amazing how it can make an old game look so different!

I played Quake 2 RTX (shareware version) and I didn't get it :( Everything's super shiny but...that's it.

I mean you have to like the aesthetic to start with I guess but for me it really worked. I think the relative simplicity of things helps show off the effect of things like the lightning and reflections more easily. The feature where you can advance the time of day is great as well to show how that effects the feel of outdoor scenes

Minecraft RTX looks equally as impressive imo, as does the fan made GTAV RTX mod.

I'm sure they do, unfortunately I must be about the only person in existence who owns neither of these games! :slol:
