I find it amazing how strawberry floating difficult a decent wireless controller solution for PCs still is.

My DS4s either disconnect constantly, never connect at all or require a spiders web of 3rd party apps/Steam support juggling to work. Nothing is consistent. When I look up best controllers for PC the answer is usually the Xbox One pad...which still uses strawberry floating AA batteries.

Crazy.

I've been using my 360 controller on PC for over a decade now, does the job perfectly fine for me.

I think I swap and recharge the batteries about once every 3-4 months, it's really not an issue.

Or just any modern rechargeables, I've got a mix of rechargeable batteries in use between controllers, TV remotes and my kids toys and the hold their charge so well these days that I never have to worry about them.

Infinitely preferable to playing on PS4 where the DS4 needs a recharge every strawberry floating 5 mintues and that means needing to sit with the strawberry floater plugged in.

Guess I'll end up buying an updated Xbox pad at some point then. I really want to try the Dualsense but as it has even less support than the DS4 that sounds like asking for trouble.

It's a bit odd that Sony seems so terrible at supporting the pad.
I'd imagine they make a fair chunk of profit on them and surely the cost of making decent pc support software can't be much so they could sell quite a few to curious PC owners if they just put in a little bit of effort. It's not like they don't have enough engineers or developers to just whip up a dongle and a small program.

I use a DS4 on PC and have done for the last year. I switched to PS4 after the 360 so it was what I had around. The DS4 works fine plugged in with a micro USB and using a piece of software (DS4 for windows). For game pass you have to sometimes trick the game into thinking it’s an Xbox pad by ‘hiding’ the DS4 pad.

I’m led to believe, with a Bluetooth adapter DS4 for windows would work still. As I sit close to the monitor, I don’t mind being plugged in. I find the pad works in game pass and on most games. Works well on steam.

I've used a wired 360 pad for ages, and it's never given me any issues, work's perfectly for everything I've used it for so far.

The only reasons I want a wireless controller are for two fairly niche use reasons, and the cost puts me right off. I'd want a wireless xbox controller to make use of the streaming content from game pass on my tablet, but even then, there's only a handful of games that aren't on PC for that which I want to play, and I've no idea what the lag will be like on wifi, so don't want to invest only to have it turn out gooseberry fool.

The other is for PSNow, streaming PlayStation games via ethernet, where I know the lag isn't too bad, but because so many PS4 games have stuff tied specifically to the dual shock controller, and that weird track pad button thing it has, you just can't play them on any other pad. Again, it's £40+ for a controller that will allow me to play a couple of games.

Yup wired 360 controller for me too. Tempted to use my elite controller, but it makes no odds really.

I'm trying to get a comfy-couch setup going and I need to connect my controller via bluetooth. It just aggravates me no end that one of the most popular bluetooth controllers out there is an absolute nightmare to get working on Windows (it's stopped detecting my DS4 at all now).

I think what annoys me the most is the lack of consistency. Sometimes it works fine through Steam and then disconnects after a single game. Sometimes I need DS4Windows and then it disconnects after a single game. Sometimes it connects via Windows bluetooth setup menu but isn't detected by Steam OR DS4Windows. Sometimes nothing detects it at all.

It's strawberry floating infuriating and I've literally wasted the entire day on it >:(

Ugh. Sounds horrendous. DS4 for windows seems really consistent for me. Never had a problem wired. Game pass is the biggest faff. Where you sometimes need to disconnect and reconnect. I never not use Thr program. Just don’t trust windows to work.

When I was using something other than an Xbox controller I found that using Steam as the launcher for something else (even non-steam apps) gave me better results for the controller being picked up

I use a USB to USB C converter on my Surface Go to use my chin switch control box thingy with it, works quite well so I assume it'd be fine with a wired Xbox controller.

Just sold my 1070 for £170 (was expecting 100 at most!) so now I'm looking at the Xbox Elite controller! :fp:

EDIT: Just ordered one. OH WELL

Is it really a Noctua if it's not a horrible shade of orange brown?

If they look like the ones they showed at computex in 2019 they do look so nice. Two tone PC builds without one of the colours being gooseberry fool brown is a win in my book.

I’ve got one of their chromax range, all black! Awesome bits of kit. Dropped my temps by 20c and so much quieter that the wraith stealth.

I’ve seen some of these ‘ice white’ builds. Will appeal to some. When replacing the cooler I read loads about coolers. It would have been too tight to fit an AIO in my case with a 240/320mm rad, but the slimline NH-12S is incredible, and is much better than the stock cooler.

Big fan of noctua.

I had a NH-D15 (they are bringing the next gen version of this in q4 so possibly in time for the new zen processors that moves on from AM4) and is so good at cooling. I could easily have used it as a support structure for a new house it that big.

I was tempted by the twin tower NH-D15 but as w newbie I was worried about fitting it in. The 12S went in nicely and is a big improvement.

It’s weird, PC gaming is a bug. I’m now tempted to re-measure and look at upgrading the cooler, even though it’s currently fine. I’ve also been looking at swapping my 3600x for 5800x/5900x but there doesn’t seem to be much gain to be had at 1440p.
