Interesting - trying to work out what EoL the current 30 series cards will do to/for current cards.

I need to google 'hash rates' but maybe not on work machine....

They can do raytracing and at high enough FPS at high or max settings.

They don't need all that much more do they?

Short answer, no

RT is incredibly resource intensive, and even though I have a pretty good setup and whilst I can play mostly in 4k you do still need to make some sacrifices here and there to get a steady 60FPS. Whether it be turning off a couple of settings or using DLSS etc. That's not even taking into account that a lot of people now want to play at higher Frame rates than 60.

Added to that, with Game developers advancing Game visuals year on year we are still a long way off from hitting a form of ceiling.

It'll be interesting to see if we get another Crisis type game that jumps visuals and mechanics again.
I'd love to see these £1k graphics cards really put to the test as it just seems amazing to me that they've become that expensive.

Arguably cyberpunk did/does this. It had a lot of the effects but needed DLSS to function with useable frame rates. If you go native resolution then there are compromises to be had.

MS flight sim is another. The level of detail there is nuts and it doesn’t have RT effects. It asks an awful lot of the CPU and GPU. Again, it’s pushing existing cards to the limit to get 30-60FPS.

I did some benchmarking and logged into my 3Dmark account. Remembered I owned a 9800Pro for half life 2 but also had a 7600GT. Looked at pictures of those cards and it’s nuts when you compare them to my 3070. Size different is insane and cooling has come a long way.

If you plan to play AAA games at all, aim for a Ryzen 7 chip at bare minimum. We already have 2-year-old games that max out 6 core chips. If you never ever want to play AAA games ever again, then, sure, Ryzen 5 3600/5600x is fine

Bit of an unusual request but I just got £70 refunded to my Steam account which I'd prefer to get moved into my bank as I haven't used my PC in almost a year.

So if anyone here is looking to make a purchase on Steam, and is happy to help me out, I'd like to use my wallet funds to gift you a game and then you can send me the money via bank transfer.

No Nigerian Princes, please.

Blimey. That’s a beastly laptop. Not sure what the laptop RTX cards are like compared to desktop versions. But 16Gb of VRAM is massive.

Only strange thing is the 2666 RAM.

You’ll be playing any game with that laptop. Hopefully you’ve got a nice screen.

Why going laptop Laga? Got to be costing you a premium to go laptop route.

Well I have a gaming desktop as well (Though the RAM and CPU in that are 7 years old, whilst the GPU is a 1080ti) but with the exception of Covid I can tend to be away from home for work on a semi-regular basis so it's good to be able to game when I'm in a hotel, or when I'm visiting my parents and staying over.

GPU stock could struggle until 2022, as some countries get just 20 monthly units

According to J.P. Morgan analyst Harlan Sur, via MarketWatch, demand is currently between 10% and 30% greater than the current output, which could take up to a year for foundries to catch up to. After that, it could take an additional three to six months to replenish distribution channels, getting the products into the hands of chipmakers like Intel, AMD, and Nvidia.

I'm going to have to set a mental price point where I'd actively start considering selling my 3080. It's entirely likely these things could triple or quadruple in price over the coming year.

If it got to quadruple you'd be mad not to, that would be some mad profit. Just have to stick to text based games, which I'm sure wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for you.

It is nuts. The 3060 also looks kinda pointless, especially the VRAM.

I’ve seen 3070s, especially the MSI gaming trios going for £800-£900, if it keeps going up, I’d be tempted to sell.

I realise I'm not doing VR or anything like that, but I think my 2060 is great :slol: good luck to people still trying to secure 3070s though, it seems really frustrating right now!

Looks like I'm sticking with my rx580 for a while then.

Thankfully, for a budget card, it has a pretty dedicated support base online, and there are plenty of people posting optimum settings profiles for loads of games on reddit and YouTube. Managed to get RDR2 running at a fairly reliable frame rate, regularly hitting 60, not dropping below the high 40s or so in night scenes with lots of lighting. Hoping next year our the year after might see another budget hero card released.

Yep, it's an incredible card for the price. I paid £150 for a brand new Asus 8GB version early last year and it produces consistently high frame rates with anything I throw at it.
