It's great to read some insight but that preview is surprisingly brief.

Videogamer reviews and previews are always pretty short. It's so they can spend more time trying to make funny videos

They're usually quite eager to praise PES too, which is probably why they're keeping this one short.

Players take too long to get in and out of animation loops, and sometimes even forget to interact with the ball entirely, making for some interesting midfield encounters as team members dance around the ball.

How have they not fixed this!? It plagued PES the last time I purchased it in 2012 ffs. :fp:

I know it's all an early build and stuff, but they even say in the article this issue is worse than last year! How is that possible!? Argh. The time I spent with 2014 was littered with this nonsense.

Looks very nice though, but then last years first screens looked pretty too and we know how that turned out.

We desperately need someone like 2K to start making football games, because right now Konami just can't challenge EA and EA are getting lazy.

They don't even give themselves a chance with how poor PES is online. You'd have thought they would have seen the amount EA make off Ultimate Team and thought 'Yes, let's get this online side sorted out as it's a big thing for players'. Give players a reason to like it and more and more will be willing to overlook the problems. FIFA is full of gooseberry fool and stupid things, but people put up with it as the alternative online experience is a disgrace. :fp:

I'm not even going to mention the other problems the game has, but seeing how big online has gotten on consoles in the past few years you'd have thought they would have been all over it, especially when they came into the PS3/360 generation in such a strong position with the quality of their game compared to their rivals.

Don't get me wrong, the EA servers are a right pain in the ass but no one can say the online experience of FIFA08 is a patch on what is on offer now in 14. Yet look at PES2014 online and it's not even comparable to what EA had in place 6 years ago before they were making millions off Ultimate Team. How long after release did people have to wait to download the PES datapack? It was a total mess. It's just such a shame they've fallen so far.

I'm happy just playing online friendlies on FIFA 14, Konami can't even get that right.

Hell, they can't even upload a simple video to YouTube when they say they will :fp:

http://m.softonic.de/artikel/pro-evolut ... bewegungen

main points translated:

- more agile and precise player movement, better movement freedom, movement seems to look more natural and fit better to the quality of the players
- control is more precise and spontaneous
- Atmosphere, goal celebration and replays very good
- creative goal celebration(Ribery shaking the camera with his hands)
- nice Slowmo Replays
- Snow and Rain confirmed
- ball jumps sometimes quite unrealistic off the floor (Konami confirmed they will work on this)
- ball movement more fluid
- AI still with potential, PES behind FIFA

All I'm bothered about is the online. Playing against mates is a bonus. But the seasons league thing EA has is great.

My only experience with pro online was 6 & 2009 I think. Complete shambles. Makes DICE and their battlefield clusterfuck look competent.

The Japanese (outside Nintendo and Kojima) just can't develop games anymore, simple as.

Dead Rising 3 and Resident Evil 6 were both incredibly boring... a bit like PES 2014.

It's simple in the sense that only someone who is a bit simple would come out with such a statement.

What a remarkable, reductive thing to say.

Western developers may have eclipsed their Eastern counterparts in the last few years (and the industry focuses more on that area as a whole), but to say "the Japanese can't develop games anymore" is ridiculous.

Let's not get too carried away. The game released in September and the patch was applied in November; not great but, from that point, the PES gameplay was terrific. It wasn't good enough at release but since that time the online gaming was excellent; fast, fluid and addictive.

Nick has posted comments on two previews so far; the first suggested that there's some areas requiring work and the second indicated plenty of positive aspects. Let's wait and hear more views before writing it off. As much as anyone else, I want Konami to get this right for the launch but these are early days.

What was the last decent non-Nintendo Japanese game? Resident Evil 4? Shadow of the Colossus?

I just had a quick look through Eurogamer's "Games of the Generation" and 5 out of the top 10 were Japanese - Super Mario Galaxy, Dark Souls, Super Street Fighter 4, Journey and Demon Souls.

The two best games of last generation were Japanese, then.

And titles such as Vanquish, Yakuza, Dragon Quest 9, Tokyo Jungle, Ouendan, Bayonetta and Monster Hunter.

I wouldn't be surprised if the truth behind your claim that no Japanese developer bar Nintendo has released a good game since 2006 actually stems from the fact *you* don't like "Japanese games" and are biased against them.

It also seems unfair to pit Japan against the entirety of Europe and North America in this debate.
