*Exactly!* I was just thinking the same thing! Forget about the close ups and trying to get realistic eyebrows and emulating cringey celebration movements - just focus on great gameplay! When playing you don't need all that excess; it's only for review screenshots and FIFA/PES player comparison vids.

Poser, you're bang on!

Hear hear! Much like the opening scenes of a match (tunnel cam, national anthems, crowd shots, ref shots), they are nice the 1st time around but after that they are just going to be skipped, so why bother? Put that time and effort into the gameplay!

Gave the update a go. It's an improvement, but that wasn't exactly difficult. Given how long it took I'd probably expect more, but it was enjoyable. I just hope they can continue to improve it (ideally a bit quicker) as I still like the concept and it's always good to have some competition with FIFA.

Tried this last night and have to grudgingly admit, it's decent. It's more like the last version of PES, only not as good. Still, if they can keep improving on this it might be worthy of a PES title.

Also, maybe it was just the first handful of games, but the AI is crap! Won all my matches with 10+ goals and 0 conceded. Must get a game against a human to see what it's like.

I'd noticed on my PS4 that you'd been playing this, dmin! I haven't downloaded it yet but I think I will give it a go later today. It's good to hear that the update has improved things a bit.

PushSquare say that, in their view, the gameplay is now better-than-that-other-football-game-that-I'm-not-going-to-mention-because-it'll-cause-arguments. "But it is still a glorified demo".

Looking forward to giving it a go.

Yeah, it's worth a go. It's decent, I just don't think it's as good as the last PES. Got some games against real people which were pretty good. The defending seems a bit woeful, the AI is crap and the goals are all a bit samey - not convinced of the new stunning shot/pass, I've seen nothing stunning so far! Oh and the interface is pretty crap. With a few more tweaks tho, they could be on to a winner. Interested to hear what you think.

Ok, I'll try it on the strength of that.

The gameplay really is all I care about. Though could just reinstall the last PES, I guess.

Had a go last night... to be honest, couldn't see much diff between this and the 2022 version! It's decent, but not enough to keep me playing regularly. Miss the PES glory days :(

Thought I'd give this a go, partially to tick off a letter on the Alphabet and partially to see if it was viable as a free football game.

I wasn't massively impressed when I only got two resolution options, and even less impressed when going full screen removed even that choice. It's not great, but whatever, I'll live.

Get into the game. Just want to play as Arsenal. Can't play as Arsenal in the current event. Try to find someone for an online match. Matchmaking can't find anyone. Eventually settle on playing some of the Leagues. First couple of matches are AI, no worries! First game, I (Arsenal) am playing...Arsenal. Right...

The game loads. The anticipation builds. The Emirates looks resplendent. I see a banner with the phrase "PRIDE OF" and then a picture of our badge. I cry - it's like I'm there. The teams come out and - wait, who the strawberry float are these dickheads? Oh right, I've got a team full of dogshit made up players like I'm playing Virtua Striker or something. That's disappointing. I ease past a similarly alien Arsenal side. Next game: Galatasaray. Jim Beglin says he thinks Lionel Messi could be the key player in this game. Sorry what now? Oh, Lionel Messi plays for them in this universe, okay. I beat Galatasaray. Next up, South Africa. They've got an exciting player called...Lionel Messi! My brave boys from Wish can't keep him out two games running and I finally fall to defeat. I am getting a bit bored of the AI league so I promote myself to Division 9. I find a real opponent, game on! He doesn't have Messi, but he does have Ibrahimovic, Hazard and a number of other REAL AND ACTUALLY EXCELLENT PLAYERS. I lose 7-0, not aided by some connection issues, and my rock solid defensive partnership of Guy Incognito and the Twitter egg avatar are both sent off.

How can someone pissing around in the bottom leagues have players that good?! I don't get it! I don't want to strawberry float about in an online Master League thing, I just want to play regular online football matches

...crikey! That does sound a bit bemusing, Dowb.

I never have downloaded eFoootball, let alone played it. It's strange as PES was my main game for several years; from 2013 through 2019 it must have been - by some distance - my most-played title. I think it's because I don't really want to see it in it's current form. It's free to try, but... I dunno, it just has an air of mobile-style payment transactions about it, and yet I don't know if it actually does.

(Bump)

I still haven't tried this but it seems to be remarkably popular, with over 750 million downloads (across all formats and editions) since it launched; and that includes 50 million so far in 2024  .

Incredible figures. Maybe I will give it a go.

Edit: 750 million... that can't be correct, can it?!?
Edit: Apparently it is. It includes mobile, console and PC.

Don't think I realised it was on PC. I might give it a go. What is the verdict on its current state, gameplay-wise?

Haven't played it since last time I posted in here, but keen to hear if it has improved... If you could both let me know, that would be great. Thanks :)

Probably counting every update as a download.
