Master League. They have confirmed it will release as a DLC on later date.

I always saw an unbroken line from International Superstar Soccer on the SNES to Pro Evolution Soccer in the present, but it feels like that is over now.

It's amazing to think that Konami had two popular football game franchises and they ran alongside each other for almost a decade. Konami started by releasing Hyper Soccer on the NES in 1992. They then proceeded with two separate studios producing two separate series:

"international Superstar Soccer" (1994 - 2003)

Originally developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Osaka (KCEO).

International Superstar Soccer >

"Pro Evolution Soccer" / "Winning Eleven" (1995 onwards)

Originally developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo (KCET).

Goal Storm > ISS Pro > ISS Pro Evolution Soccer > Pro Evolution Soccer > eFootball PES > eFootball

It's pretty odd how the series borrowed the ISS branding for a period!

I really enjoyed both of these series. ISS was always the more arcade-styled game with faster, simpler (although still excellent!) gameplay whilst PES took a more simulation-styled approach. I started out with ISS on the SNES and then ISS 64 was the game that caused me to buy an N64; whilst ISS Pro (PES!) on the PS1 got me hooked fro:the off and it was the starting point for a series that I've enjoyed so much over the years, mainly on PlayStation consoles.

I just hope that eFootball can somehow match up to the tremendous heritage that these two series have.

ISS 98 was my intro in, and have followed it all the way through since then. Bought it every year for at least 15 years, then waned as my gameplay time reduced.

I genuinely feel a bit sad about this direction it's gone in. I might buy the 2021 version as a last stand, now it's available for buttons.

I started out with ISS on the SNES and Goal Storm on PS1. I bought it solidly through until the end of the PS1 era; I never enjoyed it as much on my OG Xbox and drifted away from the games for a few years until getting right back into it on PS3.

I loved the PS3 and PS4 versions of PES but haven't played in a year now. I probably will check out eFootball but it doesn't look great; the graphics seem a bit weak, the bold blue/yellow menu styling (and that awful font!) turn me off and I have concerns about the gameplay intricacy if phone players can play against console and PC players. It looks to be designed for constant payments; more "Ultimate Team" than Online Divisions. Ho-hum, we'll see!

off topic: Anyone received the beta code for Fifa 22?

Curious to see the "new game engine" everytime I hear them mention the new improved and increased animations in the game I get the feeling it will be even slower than the version before it.

Got 1 as well. Testing FIFA Ultimate Team, Career Mode, VOLTA FOOTBALL, Pro Clubs and Kick-Off. Seems like a lot of people only got invited to test 2 modes.

I'm so confused as to what eFootball is. On one hand it seems to be an improved version of PES with some cool features... but on the other we have a touchscreen focus for mobile and core aspects of the game that seem to be far from release.

It feels to be more messy than Messi.

EDIT: Please could the main thread title be changed to "eFootball - Free To Play" (PES 2022 is no longer a part of the game name) - thank you!

Interested to see how this plays, will check it out when it's released. Haven't played PES in years, usually get FIFA but haven't played that recently either so a free game makes perfect sense for me.

eFootball 2022 will launch on 30 September!

NME wrote:eFootball will be released on September 30th for PC via Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and will only be available as a digital download. That is to say: there will be no boxed retail copy of the game available at launch.

The launch version of the game will launch with 9 teams: FC Barcelona, FC Bayern München, Juventus, Manchester United, Arsenal FC, SC Corinthians Paulista, CR Flamengo, CA River Plate, and São Paulo FC.

An iOS and Android launch is planned for the game, too, but all we know so far is that the mobile version of the game is coming ‘later’.

Cross-platform play will arrive post-launch at an as-yet-unspecified time, but cross-generation play will be available at launch (that means you’ll be able to play on PS4 if you friend has a PS5, for example).

I'm still getting my head around the fact that it's basically gonna be a demo, "free to play" and with additional content added (for a cost TBC) over time.

I think that - eventually - the game will have all of the teams and features as seen in previous versions of Pro Evo; but Konami is taking this new "build it up over time and charge for everything" approach... albeit free-to-start.

Of course, the danger is that gamers will, understandably, look at the bare-bones offering at release and be turned off. Having said that, I suspect that people who would not have bought PES will try this game out - for better or worse, it feels like many more folk are talking about this than would have been the case for a new PES.

Poor quality off-screen recording of the PS5 version... and it looks pretty good! :o .

Terrible font, of course, but the gameplay and graphics look decent. I'm not a fan of the stadium shadows on the pitch (they make it hard for me to see the action, personally) but this seems to be positive.
