I'm keen to hear your thoughts, as usual there's no demo on PC.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Sounds like it's out today on Steam, maybe at 6pm.

Been really enjoying PES 2019 so looking forward to this. I mostly play Master League so hopefully they’ll give that mode a little refresh. I’ll probably grab it after a price cut or wait to see if it’s added to Gamepass. Demo added to queue :)

I've just played around with the demo for an hour on my PS4.

Initial impressions:

+ The player and kit graphics are excellent
+ The grass looks terrific!
+ Goalkeepers now often take short goal kicks (i.e. passing to a nearby defender) as is becoming regular in real football
+ Great new defensive play by the CPU; a defender shielded the ball from me as it went back to the keeper and it felt realistically done. Similarly, one of my defenders blocked a shot with his body
+ If you try and shoot when your player is not balanced or from a weak pass, this will result in a poor shot; again, it feels realistic
+ Lots more player animations, particularly around physical collisions
+ Online play feels fluid and responsive

> The new default camera is "Stadium". I was a little unsure at first... but I like it
> The PES logo isn't used used and the name is barey mentioned! The move to the new eFootball branding is well underway
> The CPU skill level feels a bit too easy

- Attackers now seem to have way more of an edge over defenders; defenders can often have the ball stolen from them... maybe a bit too often?
- There is no commentary; at least, not in the demo. I don't mind this as I always turn it off anyway, but some folk may prefer having it
- The menus remain weak; they work okay but they aren't brilliant. The main in-match menus remain pretty much the same and are fine, though

Overall... so far, I'm impressed. As ever with PES (eFootball!), on the pitch it feels great.

McTominay looks like he's suffering from a chronic bacterial stomach infection in that cover picture, what the hell is up with his face?!

I spent a further hour-and-a-quarter playing online matches this evening. I'm really enjoying it... there are a few little bumps and quirks, but overall it just feels good to play.

It helped that I was undefeated in that time and a few GR folks witnessed it on stream. I may be bad at most games, but I'm okay at PES :-).

The same thing happened with Neymar and Coutinho a few years ago as well.

If you want to see some action from the online mode, here's the vid of last night's session.

Jump to 1:01:50-ish for a cracker of a volley for Vasco da Gama against Bayern Munich. I got a bit excited about it!

That's Pjanjic on the cover isn't it? Not Dybala, they do look similar though.

McTominay is a bit of an odd choice for a cover star but it looks like he's going to be a regular for United this season and seems to increasingly be at the forefront of United's marketing too so perhaps they're banking on his stock rising signifcantly this season. Still, given that Konami now have a partnership with United you'd have thought they'd have opted for someone more recognisable like Pogba or Rashford instead.

Played a few games of the demo on PC this morning, annoyingly I couldn't get it to play in full screen despite setting it as full screen in the settings. It also only gives the option of locking it at 30fps or 60fps which is a shame but hopefully both these issues will be easily resolved in the final game. The visuals overall are really impressive though, the player likenesses are superb, the stadiums look great and the animations are very lifelike too.

From a gameplay point of view it plays really nicely, it's smooth and fluid and the ball moves naturally, based on the demo it feels a lot less scripted than the gameplay in Fifa. It's almost a decade since I played a PES game so I found shooting/passing took some getting used to coming from Fifa but the more I played the easier I found it to adjust. I did find that the referees seemed to give fouls a little easily though, seemed to be constantly stopping play for next to nothing.

I'm definitely intruiged by it, I'm utterly bored of Fifa so I'll keep a close eye on this to see how it turns out.

I've played quite a few matches in the demo's online mode, now... maybe 25-odd.

Overall, it's excellent. There are a couple of things I hope are improved prior to the full release, though.

- Attackers win nearly all the 50-50 tussles with defenders; they can nick the ball away too easily
- Crosses nearly all seem to go straight to the keeper. This hasn't been the case in previous versions
- Referees seem to let many "fouls" go... too many

That last point didn't apply to my final match this evening, though. I was Bayern against Man United. I went 1-0 down on 6 mins, had a penalty against me on 10 mins (Neur booked) (penalty saved!), another penalty against me on 12 mins (Neur sent off!), and ended up being 3-0 down and a man down before half-hour had gone.

I pulled back a goal just before half-time. In the second half it was real end-to-end action and I finally lost the game 5-4! They had *another* penalty but I had a chance to equalise, hitting the post in the last few minutes. It was an amazing match and confirmed in my mind that I'll have to get the full release.

This is seriously good. Never been able to pull off tricks and what not. And not sure if it’s because people are getting used to it. But beat two teams online playing as Barcelona to my Arsenal.

First game ended up being a 2-1 win and the second one 4-1. I’m gooseberry fool at it... but it’s lots of fun

Arsenal feel completely overpowered. I don’t do anything fancy. But their forwards are just seriously quick. Beaten players who obviously take this game seriously.

Really tempted to buy it.

Looks amazing now and much better than fifa. Love the gameplay, which isn’t perfect, but a significant improvement over the last game. Wasn’t sure on the new default camera angle, but its the only one i play on now. Likely day one and hope the online play is better than last years. If master league has been improved further then i will be spending time in this rather than getting fifa 20 too, which i have done for the past few years. Can’t get over how good the game looks.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about it initially but, after just a few minutes of playing, I grew to like it. It captures the action well.

The Italian Serie A has been officially licensed for the game. EA's FIFA 2020 also has the license and this is a great development; rather than granting monopolised usage to just one game, the Italian league has allowed multiple contracts to be agreed. Football-gaming fans are the winners here!
