Peter Moore’s on a roll. Having already said this week that he personally took the decision to can Dreamcast, he’s now accused Sony of over-promising and under-delivering with both PS2 and PS3.

“I was angry with Sony at the time [of Dreamcast’s demise], but in their shoes I probably would have done the same thing,” he said.

“They did a tremendous job – and it’s a story they repeated in 2005 with Killzone – where they promised the consumer something they probably believed they were going to deliver, but they never did.

“PlayStation 2 - it was the emotion engine it was games coming to life, Real Player was going to be on there, a full network browser… and they just never delivered.”

Moore’s comments come from the second part part of an interview with the Guardian. Again, essential reading.

He's right, though. Sony has sold plenty of consoles on lies and half-truths.

Emotion Engine was hilarious wasn't it

I remember the Tekken demo which was meant to be in game graphics and yet not even Tekken on PS3 looks as good as that demo :fp:

But the masses buy every word of it and go around quoting it as fact. very clever lies in my view.

Can someone explain why Peter Moore seems to be so highly regarded in the games industry? I'm not criticizing him or anything, but what has he actually done that could be classed as successful? I'll go check wikipedia.

Oh yeah he's had some good moments, but I don't think he's quite as good as he thinks he is.

He is right about the Emotion Engine though, do any of you remember seeing that footage of The Bouncer? it looked incredible and made me want to buy the console, then the game came out...

The PS2 certainly delivered, if not necessarily in the areas Sony said it would.

I remember the pre-release hype of the PS2, and the talk about the Emotion Engine. There was a lot of hype about games that could make you feel, and cry! But when I bought my first PS2 I new it would be nothing more than a better games console with better graphics, (and DVD) I didn't think it would change my life. So sometimes you have to blame yourself when it comes to not keeping your feet on the ground. Essentially Peter Moore is criticising the marketing. But look at the marketing for 'New Xbox Experience a totally new console for free!' Manufacturers have to make bold claims to get noticed.

Now Peter Moore attempting to denigrate the success of the PS2 actually demonstrates how great a console it was and is. The PS2 outlived the consoles that Moore worked on, both the Dreamcast and the Xbox 1, and is still going!
We have to understand that the PlayStation 2 is the console that has taunted his career with the success he was always runner up to!

:(
