Why the strawberry float would you pay that much for a wallet?

Because its a Louis Vuitton wallet 8-)

I currently use a Harrods one, got it for a massively reduced price too as i went to their super sale when the shops first opened after the winter lockdown.

I have a nice thick full grain leather one from fat face gifted to me at least 15 years ago which give or take a tiny split in the inner and a loose thread / that black wax/glue edging stuff it's fine. It's lined with canvas so the stuff you put in doesn't get stained by the leather, even if it's something like a paper prepaid payphone card I got in Japan in 2011 (it has a nice pic of Mt Fuji on it).

I have a Supreme Louis Vuitton wallet... except mine is a knock-off I bought in Seoul. Mine cost about £40, and the genuine ones are going for £2000+! I loved the look of the wallet, but I'm not mental!

I still point to Fendi now whenever someone thinks something is expensive.

Actually I'm about to increase my prices by 300%.

Lmao Fendi now have a £2000 "dog carrier" bag.

N1FFF if you had one of those small dogs would you buy this?

What would cost more, the bag or the dog?

Edit: they have a strawberry floating dog bed for £1150. Who the strawberry float buys a Fendi bed for their dog? It's made of nylon.

I'm not too keen on Fendi after that wallet. But I wouldn't mind a Louis Vuitton holdall one day for those weekend trips away like this one
https://uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/prod ... pse-014387

With duty free and buying it in euros I could get about a 25% discount on it.

Yeah that was the wallet I was referring too.

Their T-shirts are hilariously basic for a few hundred pounds.

Edit: £1650 strawberry floating hell.

I seriously need to get into luxury fashion given what my capabilities are. Especially since I'm living in a house in the 2nd most expensive city in the country. I've only budgeted for 1 year here.

It's as much about the marketing/branding as it is the quality as you'll know though. Need to come up with a good origin story and someone to work up amazing PR on top of brilliant marketing strategy. And a healthy dose of luck.

Yeah, but for starters I can stop picking up work where I halve my artworking hourly rate just to be nice, and throw in 4x the print areas for the equivalent cost of 1 or stuff like that... Then times it by 30 and I've got 120 prints to do for what could have been, erm, 30 at the same price and every single one is done with meticulous care.

I already go for the atelier side of things and I get some very friendly clients but doing all the glossy stuff on top of that and building out PR and shooting every single thing on an SLR with lights and all that gooseberry fool, I know what kind of work that entails, and it's unrealistic for one person to do that.

I've been told time and time again the easiest way to start making a business profitable and it's simple if the product is already good and the reputation is splendid - just 2 or 3x the price and see what happens.

Seriously some people make the same mistake in work and just never query their salary and are devastated to discover that the budget was always there they just... well, they didn't have to spend it did they.

I don't think the profits on these kinds of goods are quite as ridiculous as they look and they are probably made up in very low quantities, comparatively speaking, but where I am at the moment is basically giving my work away which is financial suicide. I either need to stop doing that or up the price.

You're right that brand is about 80% story and 20% genuinely desirable products of a high quality.

Trashy? Is it because it is becoming too common these days? What other luxury brands would you rather spend your money on?

Nice. I'm sure its great quality. One of the reasons for buying Louis Vuitton is for the brand name. I realise I am paying for their monogram canvas as opposed to just material and quality beyond a certain price point.

Nice looks good for a fake too. I am not a fan of Supreme though. However I often see a queue outside their London store in Soho.

I'm pretty sure Supreme were caught within the garment decoration sector embroidering Supreme on a red Gildan DryBlend hoodie, which costs around £7 inc VAT at wholesale.

I don't think the basic Supreme t shirts are expensive anyway. Can't recall but maybe a pack of two was going for like £30 last time I saw them a few years back.

Yep, couldn't agree more - I've seen it done loads of times in the agency/consultancy space. Have the confidence to up your prices (which I know is easier said than done).

I recall this embroidered hoodie was around £300 though , the margins on hoodies are sometimes insane, they are largely made in the same facilities.

Look into tearaway tags for the big blank players, and the upper end ones like Stanley/Stella or Belle & Canvas. Really high quality stuff that will easily command a 2-3x markup, at a minimum.

Yeah that's where I picked up most of the advice, my work is highly consultative and my opinion has value, I don't just hit print in stuff, I make strategic product design decisions. I spent 16hrs on email alone for a £550 job hardly any of which was gross profit.

Like that custom hand bag service from Fendi, I'd be very interested to find out what that looks like.

If I remember correctly this is exactly what Chivas Regal did with their whisky. Absolutely zero change to the recipe or whatever - just tripled the bottle price and their popularity as a mid range whisky exploded.

Yup, partly to do with price positioning ie where you end up on the shelf in relation to similar products and the old adage you get what you pay for. But largely owing to the false idea that the only way to be competitive is to drive the price down as low as possible, and small firms tend to do that. Blind taste tests if it's food/drink also comfirm that bias in both directions.
